Unhappy Tires Change @19k suggested by dealer-- Please help

I have a 2006 350z. The mileage on my present car is 19k. I was getting a squeak sound from my car when I am applying brakes for the last couple of days. Took it to dealer for a check up, he called just now and told that all the tires are worned out and need a replacement. He said it would cost, 580 for front, and 625 for rear.
I didnt understand how come all the four tires are worned out, I am a normal driver with no aggression. I am confused as whether the dealer is doing a BS or Is it true? Please advise.

i know that this has nothing to do with it, but my dealer told me i needed a new clutch when I had 24k miles on the car and I basically told them to **** off. I presently have 63k miles on that same clutch and 6k miles of it is with a vortech supercharger. Still no slipping.

Moral of the story is, go to a tire shop and get a second opinion.

Learn how to recognise when tires need to be replaced. You can check for wear bars or use the penny test. Being smart is your best protection against unnecessary maintenance.

Thanks guys for your replies. I will have a second opinion.

But, still what I couldnt figure out after showing my car to two mechanics, is the squeak sound that my car makes when I apply brakes at a stop light around 15-20 mph. The sound also comes when I take a left turn swiftly. In both the cases, its not the sudden break, but a medium break which makes the noise come and continues until the car stops. This car is just 15 months old, and had 3 servicings, I drove it couple of times to NY, rest it was all driven on good roads. How come the car has this problem??

When I showed it to the first mechanic, he said it might be the break pads, so he opened up all the four break pads, cleaned them and reattached them. But, when I drove the car It was still making the noise. He didnt have an answer of where the noise is coming from when the brakes are applied.

The second mechanic is the dealer, who told thats the tires are worn and the interaction of the cup with the tires is causing that problem.

I used the search feature to find out if any one has a similar problem. I couldnt find one. Please advise if you know how I can resolve this squeak sound from my car.

Thank you

You posted in the general forum. Tire questions are better answered in the tire forum. Brake questions are better answered in the brake forum.

If the brakes grind, most likely the pads need to be replaced. I cant tell because I cannot see the pads. Have you looked at the pads?

19k is reasonable, for the rear tires. I doubt your fronts really need replacing.

You'd be better off with different tires than what the dealer has to offer when you do buy them, though.

I apologize for posting in a wrong forum. But I am not sure what the problem is so that I can post in the relevant forum.

According to both mechanics, the break pads are good. Only the second mechanic, aka dealer, is mentioning that its the breaks that are worned and causing the squeak sound. But I doubt what he is saying.

20k miles for rears is pretty normal in my experience. The price is pretty high for the tires, though.

I got 2 rear tires for 300. DO NOT BUY FROM THAT DEALER. check online if you get the car back and see that you really do need new ones. I dont see how u would get a squeak from worn tires anyway.

I have the same noise that you do, figured it was the breaks but when they were pulled and checked they were fine and ive continued on for about 6 months, same squeak. I try to ignore it

the stock potenza's dont make it much over 20k. DO NOT buy tires from the dealer. You can get better all around tires for a fraction of the cost. They charge out the yang for those potenza's and they are not worth it. Squeaking while braking might just be a stage in your pads that has more metallic in it. It will probably fade away and come back as your pads get older. As far as tires are concerned, buy a different brand and dont buy it from the dealer. Still is going to cost you but probably half as much.

Aren't semi-metallic pads just noiser in general? Or maybe you are talking about the low brake sensor...

I thought to neglect the sound intially, but progressively its growing up and I feel embarrased when my car stops each time at stop light making such a squeaking sound.

I took my car for second opinion to Tire Plus, he told to get it tommorow since he didnt have any appointments today. He told me one thing, that the sound may not be due to the tires!!

I have to wait until tommorow for his check

Oh and welcome to the world of random noises the Z makes. Squeaky brakes is a common one I believe.
Switch out to some Hawk pads
Since you're at it, get some nice slotted rotors too

Id say the noise is your brake pads. When your brake pads get down far enough they make a squeal to let you know its almost time for your brake pads to get changed. I wouldnt wait on getting them checked cuz the more you go over your brake pad use the more likely you are at ruining your rotors.
