Unhappy Put Snows on Today…

It started snowing (briefly) in Frostbite Falls this afternoon. That means removing my Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 performance tires on 18” wheels and replacing these with snow tires mounted on 17” wheels. I did it today…I mounted Dunlop snows (F 225/50-17” and R 225/55-17”) on 17” wheels… and cannot believe how butt-ugly 225’s look on the rear. It looks so bad it’s embarrassing. I took some pictures, but it’s so bad I am not willing to show my car looking like this, and decided not to post the pics. The winter-wheels look decent (in fact, they are attractive IMO), but a 1” lateral gap on the rear could make a viewer ill.

…Looking forward to spring when I can get the ultra-performance tires and 18” wheels back on the car.

aw come on....you post yours and I'll post mine.

Is there a winter wheel/tire picture thread? That might actually be interesting...

Good idea. “a winter wheel/tire picture thread” would be interesting. I’ll take some pictures this weekend and post to this thread to get it started.

I’m certain there are SoCal members who drive to Mammoth and Bay Area members who drive to Tahoe during the winter for skiing.

I hate you guys.

Of course, just kidding... but there is envy. Any day now, the ambient temperature in Frostbite Falls might drop to minus 10-25 degrees.

You gotta do what you gotta do, if it means switching out your tires so your Z is still sexay in the future, then by all means DO IT! not like youre sticking with it forever, lulz.

-10 - 25 degrees?? Damn, wonder what the windchill is. I actually like cold weather, but driving in the snow, I could pass. That would force me to have a $500 pos car to drive to work and back every day. I love driving the Z way too much to store 4 months for the winter.

I think my winter setup takes the cake for ugliest setup. OEM g35 SEDAN wheels. 17x7+45 all around. Just imagine how sunken that is. I don't have them on yet, but maybe I'll post pics when I get around to installing them.

I'll start...here is my winter setup (before hotchkis springs), which I am going to try to hold off installing until late December here in southeast PA. These are SSR Comp-H, 17x8 +33 all around. They are not terribly tucked in the front, but pretty bad in the back. Tires are Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 225/50/17 front and 235/50/17 rear.

I just slapped mine on myself. OEM 17's with blizzaks in the stock 17" sizes. Going from my nismos its obviously a huge visual and grip difference, but i must say the ride quality is nice. The car is an absolute blast in the snow!

You understand. Not everyone gets it. Nice to see you're back into a Z.

I'll post some pixs of my setup in a few days. I'm running Michelin X-ice (215/45/18) on 18" Motegi DPK's. They're quite sunken in but the upside is that should help protect the paint from all the sand and crap they throw down on the streets for traction.

That's what I'm thinking with my wheel/tire winter setup. Keep 'em well inside the wheel-well to prevent paint damage. The setup looks just awful, but the paint has a chance to keep looking good.

I'll post some pictures this weekend as well. It's going to be ugly.

I'm glad I dropped the money on an old 99 Grand Am SE for the winters. I could never drive my Z through snow.

Here are mine
I'll be putting them back on in a few weeks.

F:225/50/17 & R:235/50/17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 | 17x7 Sport Edition E2

They got me through the winter last year just fine. Amazing tires!!
