It doesn't matter what it says on the tire. The best way to know if you have the right tire pressure is to drive the car and see how it feels. If it's spongy, then the pressure is too low. If the car skips across the road then the pressure is too high. You can also wet the tire down and roll the car to see the contact pattern on the pavement. 32-35psi is probably perfect for street driving anyway. When I'm at the track (VIR and Summit Point) most people have a HOT tire pressure around 38-42psi. Cold is in the mid to low 30's.

This is something that many drivers do not understand. Best case it’s a reason that people experience substandard tire wear and handling; and worst case it is a dangerous driving scenario.
The maximum tire pressure is the point at which the manufacturer measures a tire’s actual size (width and sidewall height while the tire is suspended and under no load). You shouldn’t consider a tire’s maximum pressure as the upper limit for safe operation. In fact if you were to weight your car to the point it requires a tire’s maximum inflation, your car would be too heavy to drive safely. If you merely inflated a tire to its maximum pressure, you would also have an unsafe ride.
You only need to inflate your tires to the car’s recommended psi.
