Hey guys,

Just installed Volk CE28n's T/A with the following specs:

19 x 9.5 +22 with 255/35/19 Toyo T1R
19 x 10.5 +22 with 285/35/19 Toyo T1R

I have whiteline springs and koni shocks, which lowers the car at most 1" all around. (I feel that it's less than that but that's what most people say)

The front tires are fine but the rears are rubbing/scrubbing every dip and bump. The inner guard and sidewalls are rubbing when i go over bumps.

What are your thoughts on this? I've seen many people run this setup with no issues.

Also, I have no choice but to roll the guards at my local bodyworks shop (rather leave it to the pros). For those who have rolled your guards, did the paint crack at all? What advice can you offer?

With that setup you need to roll your fenders. You should have checked out here before hand.
If you do the fender rolling slowly and patiently and apply a little bit of heat to the paint as your doing it, you won't crack the paint.
If your going to get a body shop to do it, then they'll know what to do (most of the time anyway)

I was quoted for rolling/flaring and repainting will cost about 700USD. But i've read many of you guys never had to repaint...so...I'll see how it goes.

Should have done more research, but seeing that it was such a common setup, I thought it would fit on with no problems. It never occurred to me that there would be rubbing

I have had mixed reviews about cutting and rolling the fenders, will definitely have to speak to the bodyshop about either and whether they use a heat-gun as recommended by many members here.

Rolling fenders isn't rocket science. If the shop tells you that they have to repaint, tell them to go and fist themselves, and try it yourself.
I did it on my old car with a dead blow hammer, a piece of wood, and a heat gun.
All you do is heat the paint with a heat gun a bit, but be careful you don't bubble the paint. Then just gently tap the inside of the fender with the hammer onto the piece off wood, and slowly work your way back and forth until it's all rolled back.
You can also just rent a fender roller, or buy one for about 200 bucks. That would still be cheaper than what the shop quoted you.

I'm running the same set up but i'm not dropped.....do i need to roll my fender as well?

 

sounds like someone should have researched tire sizes and that before purchasing them. would have saved more in the long run IMO

 

If your not dropped then you should be ok, unless you hit a big dip, then you might rub a little.
If you've got time then i would roll them, but if not then no biggy.

get a heat gun, and a baseball bat.. do they play baseball in Australia? round hard pipe. and go slow. not hard at all. if it slightly cracks, you're moving too fast or its not warm enough. touch up paint is good for peeling.. no one is going to see it. its more for rust inhibit.

It is very easy to roll a fender. It is a lot easier if you have a friend to help you. I rolled my own having never done it before. If you use a heat gun, you should never have to repaint. I have two friends that paid for the service of rolling and it only cost them $150. If you would have used a 275/35, you wouldn't have had a problem but 285 usually rubs.

 

I suppose if you don't give a crap about your paint, then the jap cowboy method works.

 

After doing some reading....sounds like i should roll/cut my rear fender jus to be on the safe side cause i plan to drop in the future.

 

you don't need to cut anything. just roll.

 

Cutting will give you more issues, because then you've got bare metal that will need to be covered, and your left with a sharper edge.

 

roll with a heat gun and LOTS of patience, do NOT cut

 

I had my rear fender trim with my die grinder.. just mask off what you need to trim.. after done just touch up the area that was cut..

 

wow I have that same set up pretty much, and was thinkin about going to a 285 from the present 275 probably not now, don't really feel like rolling my fenders for a cm wider tire.

 

had my share of problems with this set up. I ran same rears drop to gf210. Sliced the sides... must cut or roll fender AND run more neg camber...

I myself raised it up with hotchkis and maintained stock camber for tire longevity. doesnt look slammed but certainly bad azz...

either way keep those wheels...pure sexx.
