Default Heavy A@# Wheels!!!

Got a quick question,

Would someone going from wheels that weight 38lbs each to a set that weights 24lbs each be able to feel the difference in the weight drop (ie acceleration...MPG)?

Just curious...

not really... i mean you are only losing 54 pounds... will there be a difference as far as mpg, acceleration? yes, will you feel it probably not... does your car feel different when you have a passenger? not really not unless you have it completely stripped and are contantly pushing the envelope...

Holy christ! 14lbs per corner is a huuuge difference. And 38lb wheels?! What are these 24's?

ya but thats 14 pounds per corner spread evenly all the way around, and like i said, it depends on the driving you do, i am assuming from the fact that he has 38 pound rims that he isnt doing alot of auto crossing in it, you would really have to remove that from one end or side for it to behave differently... i mean i could be wrong but i went from 26 pound factory wheels to 14 pound super-lites and i do auto cross, and the difference was not minimal, stripping the interior down and droping like 200 pounds or so, that would be a difference...

yes, you will feel a huge difference. in both accel, mpg, handling and stopping. rotational mass effects everything.

They are 20x8.5 Zenetti Stellas (Chrome). One site said they were 38 lbs each.

56lbs off the actual wheels is pretty extreme. I went from a 20+lb wheel to a 14.5lb wheel on my heavy *** 3200lb honda and I could feel the difference right off the bat as soon as I rolled off my driveway after the install. It shouldn't be any different with the Z, unless your expecting acceleration from going stock to turbo.

I don't believe you know what your are talking about. Rotational mass has far more impact than dead weight. 54 pounds in the trunk is not the same as 54 pounds that the motor is trying to turn

I respectfully disagree. 14lbs per corner loss would easily make the car behave as though you removed 200lbs inside the car. I've changed up to 10 lbs per corner on my BMW's, and the difference was tremendous. Try it and then comment.

That is the truth right there. Also another thing to consider is braking distance is going to be increased because of all the extra weight on the wheels. Accelerating and decelerating are both going to be dramatically effected by an increase in rotational mass.

+1. Rotational mass and inertia are a whole different ballgame than asking a passenger to step out of the car for the sake of "lightness". Pound-for-pound, losing weight at the source of the rotation has a much more evident presence.
