Default tire dilema

I bought a set of tires, 2 - 295/35/18 and 2 -265/35/18

I wanted to exchange them for stock size 225/45 & 245/45

I know I have to pay the shipping to send them back but here is where I am at a loss.

The company now wants to charge me $6 more per tire to ship the new tires. Should the cost difference between what I am send back and what I am getting offset the shipping cost all together? They're wanting to charge me $18 per tire for the new set.

I don't understand the difference in shipping costs. I assume that the shipping method is the same. What company is this?

Sounds like a "re-stocking fee." If the company sells tires at a low price, they will need to recapture return costs. $75 is reasonable if the orignal price was quite low.

Just curious... Why are you returning your original purchase? Was it your wheel size (rim width) being incompatible with the tire size?

The price for a barrel of oil went up significantly during the last few days, and has been increasing over the last few weeks. The reason is simply that the price of a barrel of oil is tied to the US dollar which is dropping in value in the Global Economy. That means that people in the USA are going to pay more for a gallon of gas.

Tires are fairly heavy. Contracts with trucking and shipping companies have a built-in adjustment for shipping costs. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that shipping costs increased significantly in the past few days. To make matters worse, some states have just increased the road tax on diesel fuel and gasoline. The idiot legislators in Minnesota did this (a huge increase on road tax) a couple of days ago. Shipping costs are literally “going through the roof.” This is really dumb (increasing fuel and road taxes) because it invites inflation and hurts middle-income consumers.

Sanders Performance in NJ, this is who Vredestein pointed me to to purchase their tires.

As for the cost of oil/fuel I can understand that is how they get the new shipping price, but shouldn't the cost between the two sets basically cover the shipping. I mean the price difference between 265 & 295/35 is more than 225 & 245/45 by at least 20+ each. Should they at least credit me the price difference minus the shipping.

Oh, and they are not exactly selling them at a low price, I paid 904 shipped for them.

Yes, I had a brain fart and ordered the wrong size for my stock rims. I am trying to get out of this as gracefully as possible and as soon as possible. They've dragged this out now for almost 3 weeks.

I understand your points and do not disagree.

I only point out that shipping costs increased 25% during the last few days, and only because the cost of diesel fuel and gasoline jumped more than anyone would have predicted or expected. Of course, this has nothing to do with the product's price and only how much it costs for shipping.

Recession is happening...

just my thoughts....
I really don't understand ordering the sizes you did??? As a result, I would say you are at the mercy of the company you bought them from. Which leads right into my second point, why didn't you order them from AFS? With the big Vredestein thread going and numerous references to AFS and you bought them from another vendor and paid over $900 when everyone else bought the same sizes for under $750. While I feel for your situation, you have only yourself to blame. Like I said, you are at the mercy of the company you bought them from at this point. It wasn't their screwup

You are so right and I am not doubting it one bit. Why I ordered the wrong size to begin with is due to not fully reading the thread to realize the OP had wider wheels. I got the vendor from the North American distributor for Vredestein with the thought that they would do me right, which I felt they did initially considering shipping.

My question is shouldn't they credit me the difference and then tack on shipping and credit/bill me that difference.

Like I posted, unfortunately you are at the mercy of the vendor. Read through their exhange/return policy and see if they have an official policy.

Based on what I would think should happen is:
- you ship wrong size tires back to them; you pay shipping
- they inspect and credit you back your money minus any restocking fees or the original shipping charges
- you use this credit towards the correct size tires and pay any difference, or if there is remaining money, they credit this back to your account.

Yes, I was under the impression that this was a no brainer process. However the vendor started messing with the numbers saying we gave you a deal on shipping, etc... I emailed Vredestein and they've since straightened out the vendor and now I will not be out the difference.

I'm not complaining about my f'up one bit, I know I will pay for it but I don't want to pay anymore than I have to. I've sent the tires back today so this BS is almost over with. Zivman, I should have been listening to you from the start.

**** happens and it sounds like you just want to be treated fairly. don't feel too bad about it, it happens to everyone. The problem is, you and the vendor are trying to look out for yourselves, and while you may be willing to compromise a bit, it is hard when you feel like you are taken advantage of.

I am glad vredestein straightened them out for you. My car is still in storage.. most likely another month, so I won't have a change to try mine out for a while. Let us know how you like yours.

Good luck
