Default Track Wheel/Tire Fitament Question

I'm looking for some feedback form the wheel/tire experts. Backgorund is that I am looking for some rims and rubber to run HPDE with my Nismo Z. I've seen some wheels or sets for sale here in the classified forum, including the ones that I asking about here.

Stock Nismo setup:

F: 18x9 +30 w/ 245/40/18
R: 19x10 +30 w/ 265/35/19

Enkei NT03M/Toyo setup that I saw for sale (although the price seems pretty high...):

F: 18x9.5 +27 (??) w/ 275/35/18
R: 18x10.5 +30 (??) w/305/35/18

I'm not 100% positive on the offsets, but I think those are the only offsets offered on these size NT03M rims.

The new rubber is just over an inch and a half wider than the stock Nismo rubber -- diameter is just about the same. I'm stock height on the Nismo -- which means I have a pretty substantial gap right now.

Anybody want to offer an opinion of fit? Will it fit? It would obviously stick out further than the stock wheel and tire, but would that make a difference?

Thanks for any thoughts/opinions.

Great idea, but you can also run 295/30 front and 315/30 rears if you wanted.

I could by a GTR, too, but that wasn't the question, was it?

I would drive HPDE with the 350Z as is. After all the purpose is to learn about your car, and improve your driving technique.

Set- ups that you mention may be worthwhile for competition.

Kind of reminds me of the first season autocross racer who shows up with 10 inch wheels and competition tires. The driver cannot drive worth 2 cents but the set-up looks hot.

You are right: the first thing that I learned doing HPDE was that my Z drives a heck of a lot better than I do. I wasn't thinking that the car needs to handle better as much as thinking it would be helpful to get some track rims and tires so that i don't wear out the tires that I drive on everyday. The setup that I was referring to was just one option that I had stumbled upon in the classifieds section -- and I was curious whether it would fit my car without rolling the fenders.

Thanks for the info. What size tires do you run at the track? I'm assuming that you are running a square setup to improve tire rotation? How much oversteer do you have -- or is the setup pretty neutral?

Sean

You know what I think on this;, but just in case, and for others benefit. Yes, everyone who says you should drive on your stockers is correct, in that you should learn your car before you upgrade it. However, like you, I would rather burn out track tires, and still have my regular street tires there for me.

That said, I am really pleased with my Toyo R888's, and would recommend them for a track tire. Longevity, I can't speak for yet, but the RA-1's, which the R888's are based on, supposedly had very good longevity, for an R-Comp tire.

As for wheel fitment, I have no idea...

LOL. I believe that many of us have done HPDE, and have been impressed as hell when a professional driver takes the wheel to show us how it is done.

The cheapest way to do your 1st few track days is to buy a full set of non-nismo/grand touring 350Z 18" "take-off" from a new car....you can buy BRAND STINKIN NEW wheels/tires for about $1000-1100....then just wear them out on track days....then sell the wheels with bald tires for $400-500...I have done this 2 times.

This should give you 4-6 track days depending on the tracks and how you drive.
And the stock REO50A tires will work fine on the track,,,,,and you don't have to worry about offsets and all that other crappage...

Agreed. Added bonus - you won't have to replace your expensive 18" and 19" tires for the NISMO wheels.

Right now i run MB Weapons in 17x9 +27 on the track , with 255/40 fronts and 275/40 rears. My next set will be square in 275's. My setup with falken 615's will run about $1k new, clears you Brembo's and tire cost will be cheaper in the future.

I have some cheap and lightweight track options available in the 17" Rota P45R wheels

More info here

https://my350z.com/forum/showpost.ph...8&postcount=16

Would go very well with a 255/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Toyo R888. PM me if you are interested in the wheels or the wheel/tires together.
