Im currently looking for 19s R-Compound tires. I know R888 has 19" but the size are 235-295-305 which isnt really suited for me. ( i need something like 265 in the rear, or maybe 255). Does anyone know any other tires that's r comp which has alot more size avaiable? for 19 inch that is. Thanks

 

19" R-compound tires are rare. Toyo and Hoosier, AFAIK, are it. They're EXPENSIVE too.

There's another reason that you'd want the smallest wheels that you can find -- rotational inertia.

 

Its possible but why? Competition 17 and 18 inch tires perform just as well and are considerable less expensive.

 

Because 17's are sloppy. They sidewalls roll more than a low profile 19" and they have a tendency to bounce more when upset by a bump or uneven road/track surface. Lower profile tires allow the shock valving to work more efficiently.

I have a 19" wheel and tire combo lighter than most 17's of equal size, so weight is not such an advantage anymore with 17" wheels.

And to add to that. People with Porsche's, Lambo's, Vette's want to run HPDE, SCCA want to use their stock wheels which are now 18" and 19".

I love my 19" R compounds.

i want to run 19s because i am going to run my car all year long. I pay alot of money to buy light weight and forged wheels but i dont run them on the track, so what's the point? So therefore, im looking at 19s r-comp. I know its going to be expensive but i still want to see what are the options out there. And there's no point of me going super wide at the back cause im still NA. So the R888 is out of the question.

19" tires might give you a bit more "crisp" cornering, but you pay a significant price in loss in acceleration and braking.

Don't believe me? There's LOTS of documentation on this issue.

That being said, I'd rather be fast than be stylish on the track.

 

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups and Pirelli PZero Corsas come in 19" size as well.

I never said its quicker on the track. But like i said, im not racing for world champion. I paid a premium for some nice wheels, i might as well use it for its purpose ( or at least half of its purpose)

The thing is that you bought 10.5" wheels that require 295 rubber minimum. You don't buy a size 8 shoe when your foot is a size 10 becasue you like the style of the shoe. 265 or 255 will have a massive stretch to the tire. FAIL!

I think VOLK is a funny company.... They make 10.5" +22 or even a +15 wheels for the Z, but if you are lowered and run the right sized tire 295/305 then they won't fit.

Just a useless fact but the Prosche Carrera GT sports 20" rear wheels and 19" fronts. Jeez.... what do they know!

I agree on the tire size. I always wished that Volk would offer a 10" wheel rather than 10.5.

 

It should be mentioned that the car was designed around 20s. I remember reading long ago that Porsche opted for larger wheel sizes partly so the consumer would not switch the wheels out for larger aftermarket options.

Also consider that those who track their CGTs often switch out to 18 or 19" wheels which allow them to run slicks.

 

R-compounds usually have much stiffer sidewalls than street tires (compared to even max performance tires) so you won't lose too much response by going to a smaller diameter wheel.

 

Im running 275 atm and its no where near having a stretch look. 265 shouldnt be that bad. Of course every tires are different but my michelin PS2s are actually fitting pretty nicely.

 

275 on a 10.5 is stretched. Not bad, but it's streched.
