I saw a company at The NOPI Nationals advertising that they could coat metals like this and I thought, "What a stupid idea! That'll never sell!" This was probably back around 2005. I wish I remembered the name of the company. I have a pretty good memory with stuff like that and I want to say the name involved "Prism" but I googled and said F it. Too much irrelevant stuff comes up.

But yes, there are people who can probably apply a coating to a standard polished lip to give it a similar effect. I would check with a powdercoating/anodizing shop and see if they know.

When I got my rim refinished, the place had titanium powdercoat finish samples. However it looked totally crappy. It's very purple and violet in color. At certain angles it was a slight green. Looked horrible.

I don't own a set, but I've read that the finish on the Gram Lights isn't terribly tough..

Maybe somebody who owns a set can chime in?

I'm still seriously considering buying a set though, because they're f'n beautiful!

Cool. Looks like more of a chameleon and not a titanium though.
