Default front wheel spacer problems

OK guys go easy. I'm relaying a question to a friend who is currently trying to put 20mm spacers on his 07 touring. He dosen't have internet access so I'm having to ask this without actually seeing what the problem is. He is saying that there is some thing on the front hub that is keeping the spacer from going on flush. It sticks out about 1 inch. It gots a 12mm bolt to it that prevents the spacer from sitting flush against the hub. Not sure what purpose it serves or if he takes it off he want be able to put it back on if he puts the spacer on..help..

Yes, it's a little bolt that's there to keep uninformed people from rotating the staggered tires. Use a socket and unscrew it, there's no harm. It can screw back on if you take the spacer off later, but I'm not sure why you could do that anyway.

You could have gotten faster results searching, good luck.

your friend's owner's manual also reveals the purpose of the mysterious "bolt":

(see page 8-37 of the 2006 manual, 8-34 of the 2004 manual, etc.):

CHANGING WHEELS AND TIRES
Tire rotation

Tires cannot be rotated in this vehicle, as
front tires are different size from rear tires
and the direction of wheel rotation is fixed
in each tire.
A pin is on the front brake rotor to prevent
the rear wheels from being installed in
place of the front wheels. The spare tire
can be installed in place of the front and
rear wheels. When installing the spare
tire in the front wheel, the hole in the
spare tire wheel must be aligned with the
pin on the brake rotor.
