Default Has anyone mounted 245/40/18 on 18x8.5 rim up front?

I bought 18x8.5 rims for non-brembo 04 performance package. They have a 30mm offset - same as stock. I think the stock 225/45/18 are too narrow for the 8.5" rim. Found 245/40/18 option with nearly the same rolling circumference / revs per mile.

Planning on tracking this car, has anyone used this combination? Any rubbing or other issues?

Thanks.

That's pretty much the standered size tire for that rim size.

I actually just picked up a set of 8.5 inch wheels and they came with 245/40/18 tires.....

But my question is, what's the largest size tire you can put on a 8.5 wheel?!?! I'm not getting traction on my tires right now....

Without getting that bulge tire look I would stay with a 245 but you could go
with a 255...hell 275's will fit, the dummies who put some tires on my old set of wheels once put the 275's up front and 245's on the rears by mistake LOL

I have the 35th anniversary 18's. I think I'm going to try 255's in all corners or maybe 265's in the back

I'm currently running 255/40's on the 18x8.5 Rays track wheels. No bulge at all really. I'm actually thinking to upgrade to 265's next season

Im installing today 245/40 in front on a 8.5" and 275/35 rear in a 9.5" wheels. Will let you know, this is the recommended combination for this sizes.

Recomended by who??? That person is a fool. The proper rear is actually a 275/40, i hope you like driving a twitchy car at freeway speeds.

Terrasmak, with 40 rear your car will look like a truck. Is a very high tire, is simple.... just do the mathematics.......no recomendations needed. Take your own decisions.....

hmm, first you say that is the recommended tire size, then you say no recommendations needed? all he said was that whoever told you that is the recommended size was wrong. 275/40 is not a "big tire" either and will not make it look like one either. also when i do the mathmatics, that tire size will throw your speedometer off, as well as your VDC. so go ahead, obvioulsy all you want is "looks" rather than proper performance of your car.

Not on a "Z" it's not. As has been said, 275/40/18 is the correct tire size for a 9.5" wheel on the staggered wheel setup used by the "Z". The car's electronics and handling characteristics are designed around a 1" stagger. If you put a 35 series in back the front and rear wheel diameters will be the same, and you will kill the stagger.

I have Nismo 18" wheels (8.5" and 9.5") on my "G" Coupe with the recommended 245/40/18 in front and 275/40/18 in back.

there is no perfect answer, its all about what you want to do with your car.
i have 245/40 on a 9.5" wheel. handles perfect in every way and i still have traction. its all up to the driver on how they want to use the car.
