Default Poorer handling from 19" upgrade ?

I just got these wheels & tires:

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=37328

And I love them... but the handling changed dramatically... like when I'm going at any decent speed and need to change lanes/turn/whatever, there is a "lag" now... a delay between the time I turn the wheel, and the time the car starts to turn...

In other words, it feels softer... not as precise as it used to be... almost feels like it rolls... kinda crappy feeling =( Can some of you offer me advice on what may cause this and how I can try to correct this ?

Thanks my fellow experts

Interesting, I had the same thing happen when I first put my 19s on my car. I felt the same way, steering response should actually get better. My new tires and wheels felt same as you explain for about 100 miles, then everything gelled.

I believe that the tires have to have time to bead properly to the rims. I noticed that the place that had mounted and balanced my rims and tires had left the tires at 42 psi. This was to help the tires set I guess.

Well, now the setup feels just plain great, better than my stock setup. It is quick in response, and very stable. I really love the added stability and it is what stands out the most.

IMO, just give it time, and make sure you run a bit high in psi for a while (I did for like 100 miles).

I donno, I stayed with 18" and didnt experience any such lag for any length of time... perhaps you just got used to it?

you need to give those tires some miles to break in.... mine felt a little loose for about 100 miles... now it's solid. Handles way better than stock.

Of course I have an Eibach drop..... I'd HIGHLy suggest a drop... if nothing else but to get rid of that wheel gap.

the wheels look sweet though!!!!

we've heard a lot of mixxed opinions on this matter. There is also a reason (besides cost) that Nissan chose the 18" for the track model. remember the concept version of this car had 20s. Now for me...My car started with 16's, got the 17" SS upgrade, and now Im on 19's. Of course I had 18s in there too...but asthetically the 19s were my choice. I didnt notice any lag in cornering performance.

Also...you have to take in to account the tire choice. Is your current 19" tire as performance oriented as whatever 18" you had on before? Turn-in can be dramatically reduced/increased based on your tire choice.

Yes, the Dunlop Sport 9000's are an ultra-perf tire.. with the perfect size setup that matches the stock diameter closest..

Thanks ND74V, you da man as always. I'll break em in and let you know..

Default I have a few questions.

If Nissan made the car with 18” wheels (track model) is that not the best wheel size for the setup of the car? What advantage do you get from 19” wheels other than looks? If you get a suspension kit and lower the car do 19” wheels still fit? All of these may have been answered prior but this web site is getting huge and more difficult to fined answers even with the search. I love this site but it may need an index and FAQ for new members.
Thanks.

Many members of this site run a lowered suspension with 19" wheels.
