Default How many have gone from 17 in. wheels to 19 in. wheels

I am wanting to go from 17 in. wheels on my touring model to 19 in. wheels. Has anyone done this? Were there any rubbing issues? What size tires did you go with? Is the ride more harsh? How much did it mess with the speedo?

Any help on this matter appreciated,

i did...actually i will..i bought 19x 8 19x10 iforged aeros
tires are
245/35 front
285/35 rear

there are many tire calculators that will let you know how bad you will throw off the speedometer

with that tire setup its only by 1 or 2 mph

txstyle says that 245/40 and 285/35 is closer to stock setup but it sounds wierd

i dont actually know if anyone has gone from 17 to 19..but i know ppl have gone to 19"..i dont know the difference between goin from 18 to 19 than from 17 to 19...im pretty curious too

the ride will obviously be stiffer and it will feel different..but i hear that after you put about 300 miles on the 19" setup it will feel good

ill let you know when i get my wheels..i cant wait

It's not near as bad as I thought. A little bit rougher - like on interstate expansion joints and old highways with a bunch of cracks in them. On most roads the difference is barely noticable. Get the 19's!

I upgraded from the 17"s to Volk 19"s.

There was no noticeable difference in ride quality, but then again, I have very light wheels, lighter than stock. Heavier wheels will worsen your ride.

I'm running a 275/30 as opposed to 275/35, which throws the speedo off by 1-2 MPH, I think. 275/35 would keep the rear tire diameter in spec.

There weren't, and won't be, any rubbing issues, unless you elect to go with a tire that is more than 10" wide in rear. Any custom wheel maker will know the right sizes and offsets for the Z, so this shouldn't be a concern for you.

What wheels are you looking into?

I went form 17" to 19" with no problem. With my setup, I have to roll the fender because of my tire size. I'm running 19x9 (not sure about the offset) and 19x10.5 with offset 22. 255/35-19 and 295/30-19. No rubbing after rolling the fender.

if your setup (wheel/tire) is too wide that it begins to rub the fender then a body shop literally rolls out the part of the fender that is slanted down...this allows a bit wider of a wheel to fit...he probobly had too small of an offset with too wide of a wheel (10.5 is pretty wide)...so he had to have his fenders modified...

i actually would like to know how easy it was for them to do it..and how does it look now karma??

Havabooz,
I used to run one of the performance shop here in the Bay Area and got to learn how to roll the fender. It's pretty easy, takes about 30 mins to roll 2 rear fenders. If you want to get your fender rolled, make sure that the place have a fender rolling tools, not just a baseball bat or pipe. You also have to heat the fender with the heatgun to soften the paint so it doesn't crack.

The reason that I bought 10.5" with offset 22 and 295 tires is because I like the lip (almost 4") plus I like the fact that 295 is the widest tires you can put on a Z.

Check out the pictures below for now. I'll take some close up of the fender whan I get a chance.

Huh, those do look cool. I have had no problems out of mine, I went from 17s to 19s. The ride difference is actually not noticable to me. But what is noticeable is when I hit a turn. Woha, what a great difference.

me too karma...but i didnt like the idea of rolling the fender..so i solved my problem by getting 10" wide iforged aeros with a 4" lip...i can fit 285 on the rear according to vic350z...295 might rub on the inside so its not worth it..cant wait to get my wheels ..ill post pics when i do...i thought that your rolled fenders would look different than they do....the image i had in my head of rolled fenders doesnt look like the one you posted...yours looks real nice and clean...but i dont see a difference between the rears and the fronts..please post close ups

From what I understand, it doesn't really matter that much between 17" and 18" wheels.

the front wheel (which contains the speed sensors) of 17" is 225/50/17

the front wheel of 18" is 225/45/18

the difference in tire diameter is 656.8 vs 659.7 (millimeters)

So you're better off saving $1200 and stick to stock 17" if you're going to upgrade anyways.

but this is coming from a guy who has never upgraded wheels so don't trust everything I say.

Actually, the speed sensors are on the rear wheels. Also, since you are talking about a plus 1 upgrade, there is a bit of a difference. The guy wants to go from 17s to 19s, don't think he wants to stay with 17s.

I went from 17's to 19's. 245/35/19 in front and 285/35/19 in rear. My offsets are in my sig below.

No problems even after the Eibach drop. Ride quality is about the same but it sticks SOOOOO much better with all the rubber!

I think it is on the front wheel. but I'll check up on that info.

Whether you want to plus 1 or plus 2, you want to make sure you have same tire diameter and compensate the tire width. But one doesn't necessary make it less compatible than other.

Also I meant if the guy wants to upgrade to 19" eventually, he should stick to the 17" that comes standard, save the $1200 to spend the new set of 19" wheels. Rather than spend money on 18" that would be sitting in the garage floor anyways. In fact, the 17"s might be a good track wheels for use on weekends.

I don't think that was difficult to understand.

Dude, it is not that big of deal to me, heh. There are many options that he could do. There are also many tire calculaters that will get his diameters close to stock.

From my understanding, he never mentioned getting 18s. I don't know where you got that from. Also, the speed sensors are on the back, I started a trend on it a few weeks ago. Should be able to get it in a search.

Not trying to be difficult, just accurate.
