Show wheels vs. Go wheels version eleventybillion

I'm in a pickle. I'm trying to decide if I want my new wheels to be more show oriented or go oriented. My car is primarily a street car with no plans to race other then a few passes at the dragstrip [no auto-x]. Go to a lot of cruise-in's with friends a few carshows here and there [nothing big like Hot Import Nights]

I'm looking at two different wheels, both in the same size of 18x8. I think they both look good, but stuck on which ones to buy.

The go wheels, SSR Type-C RS in gunmetal:

Pro: Lightweight at 18.5lbs, semi-forged, race look, easy to keep clean.
Con: Kind of bland looking, no polished lip, expensive at $1300 for a set.

The show wheels, Stern ST11 De Elegance in black/polished lip:

Pro: More flashy with the polished lip, much cheaper then the SSR's, easy to keep clean, would be first person with these particular wheels on my car.
Con: Heavier then the SSR's, weigh about the same as stock wheels maybe a little less.

Unfortunetly, they don't make Volk's for my car, or I would have already bought a set and wouldn't have posted this, lol.

Which would you pick?

I was going to go with the ssr's, but went with the Advan Rg2's instead. **** looks hot.

That's an easy decision. Stern isn't even a "show" wheel. It's just a cheap wheel. That style you picked is ugly, too.

SSR on the other hand makes great wheels and may styles, including the ones you picked, are relatively lightweight.

Are you serious SSR's all the way!! i don't consider an 18 even really a show wheel def. need to go bigger if that is the direction you want to go in.

 

The offsets on the stern wheels would suck. SSR FTW , show and go all in one.

 

I think the SSR comp (or type c or whatever) is a great looking wheel, so much so that I bought a set in silver as my winter wheels (17's though). I think in 18" they will look great. They are light weight to boot. What car do you have?

 

Pontiac Solstice. Wheel selection is very limited. Stupid 5x110 bolt-pattern and high offset.

 

18's should look pretty good on that since it's such a small car. Sterns would not look right IMO. Actually, I'm thinking that anything with a big polished lip will look off, I'm not sure why.

 

Glad that you mentioned show versus go wheels. Or you could say fancy versus daily driver wheels. If I will be driving 16,000 miles/year in the rain and snow, I do not want a $800 wheel. Its just too much abuse for a show wheel.

 

Trade car in for something with a better bolt pattern !!!

Stupid Mackin Industries won't produce 5x110 wheels, even though they already have high-offset wheels available [45+ range]. I would love to have a set of GTS wheels for my car.

 

I wonder if anyone makes wheel spacers that have staggered bolt patterns, i.e. 5x110 hole pattern to mount onto your wheel hub, then 5x114.3 studs sticking out to mount your wheels onto? Diameter wise it wouldn't have to stick to far out beyond your wheel hub. I can't be the first person to think of this...
