Default New pics with Gram Lights and S Tune kit

Hey guys,
I took these pics back in June...finally got around to uploading them! There has been a bit of talk about the Rays Gram Lights and other 5 spoke wheels lately, so I figured I'd post these. They are higher qualilty and in better lighting than my original pics. These give a better idea of how the gunmetal wheels actually contrast with the chrome silver in daylight. Also, the car has the NISMO S Tune kit on it in these pics, whereas in the original pics, it was on the stock suspension...looks much better now IMO.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

ECKZLNT...I live up North, in the Morristown area.

wren57...Check the other thread I listed, and contact my guy Rishie. He'll take good care of you.

hardy...thanks...I like the 'rivet-free' look as well. They are nice and simple. This is probably about the only cosmetic mod I'll do for the car (well, maybe a subtle rear spoiler), so I went with 18's. The roads are complete ***** where I live, so 19's are just a greater liability, and more expensive to put shoes on!

fairladyZ in Japan...I posted some impressions from a trackday at Pocono raceway and some autoX. Do a search on 350Evo Swaybars, and you should be able to find it. Overall, I love the suspension.

The difference in ride quality stiffness between the stock setup and S Tune is negligible, as I’m sure you know! In other words, it’s not really any more harsh than stock, but much more controlled. After installing the kit, my girlfriend didn’t even comment that the ride was rough when we were out on a drive. That’s the true test.

On the highway, the S tune kit really makes the car feel ‘hunkered down,’ and extremely stable. The ride height isn’t lowered that much, which I like. I don’t want to worry about tearing the subframe out on every stone in the road. I never really complained about the stock setup’s bounce on the highway, as most others did. It honestly never really bothered me that much…and I didn’t even really think it was a problem. After install however, I knew it was gone, and I definitely knew what people were referring to!

Street driving is generally more fun with the kit in any situation. The car definitely feels more nimble. I think a set of sway bars is a necessary addition with this kit. I don’t think just the shock and spring combo will deliver the driving experience a more advanced driver would enjoy. I haven’t tried the Nismo bars, so I can’t comment. I’m running the 350Evo bars on full stiff front, and med rear. The car is fairly neutral, but the more I drive it hard, the more I’m starting to notice a bit of push in some situations. Now that I’m feeling really comfortable with the car, I’m going to take the car to med F/med R stiffness some time soon to see how it feels. The first time I took the car on an on-ramp near my house I was grinning ear to ear. When the car’s set up well, there’s a feeling you get when you go through a turn and the rear end feels like it’s chasing the front around. It’s hard to explain. It feels like the rear end is light, but not like it will just let go and loop. With the stock setup, I never got this feeling. The weight would just settle out over the front corner, and that was it. Now, you can get on the throttle after the nose is turned in, and the rear just follows it around…it’s so much faster through a corner that way…no more dropping off of the throttle to tuck the nose, and no more playing with the brakes and stomping the throttle in low speed corners to induce power oversteer at autoX.

Track driving with the setup was a blast. I had one corner on the course that was killing me with understeer, but the corner was giving everyone trouble. It was a slow speed, off camber right hander…the apex was so late, that it’s extremely difficult to hit it properly. Even the race cars in my group (I was instructing, so we had a few race prepped cars in my run group), were having understeer issues there. Other than that turn, the car handled beautifully. Part of the course runs onto the NASCAR oval, and the car felt extremely stable and planted at speeds of 110mph+ on the bank.

The one thing about this car is that it seems very sensitive to tires. Pressure differences make a huge impact on the feel of the car. From my notes at autoX, I’ve decided a 4-5 lb stagger F to R works best. At autoX, I run cold pressures of something like a 39 front psi, and 34 psi rear. This really helps to get the front end to turn in. Also, the 245/275 Kumho Ecsta MX's feel so much better than the stock RE040 225/235 17’s. The difference in grip and the ability to put power down out of turns is tremendous when driving hard.

Overall, the car feel awesome, and I’m really enjoying driving it all venues (street, autoX, track). I still haven’t had the car on Race tires yet, so I don’t have any feedback on that. If you look at Raceboy’s recent post, he believes the S Tune kit may be a bit overwhelmed by R compound. As I mentioned to him, once he gets his sway bars set up, he may feel differently. Who knows though? We’ll have to wait and see what he thinks. For me however, the kit works great. My car is street driven 95% of the time, so I don't want to compromise too much. It's still a blast to drive on the track at reasonable speeds, and I'm not pushing for that last ounce anywhere other than autoX...where it is more than adequate. I want to keep it very simple, with very few adjustments. I'll work on improving my driving with the current setup, rather than getting a bunch of moving parts. I went through that with my old car, and I spent more time tinkering with it than driving it...which was no fun.

J's350Z...you bastard...don't let my S2000 antenna secret out of the bag! I know those pics are big...the first ones were tiny and of poor quality...guess I went overboard! Big thanks to MRCMotorsports for the suspension install. Good group of guys.
