Default help me choose 245 or 255

Hi I have a base 350z with the rays forge track rims. The stock size is 245/45/18. The old owner used 255/45/18. Can anyone tell me why one would increase the thread size to 255? Is it for traction? If I use 245, what am I giving up, and will I notice a physical differences looking behind the car or on the side? I'm researching the answer online but can't get a definitive answer.

Yeah, the most likely reason the previous owner used the 255 is to get better traction and overall grip. Also the 255 would offer more proctection to the wheels against curbs. If you go back down to 245 you would have less rubber on the road and wouldn't have as much grip as the 255.

The difference between 255 and 245 is minimal, and you will not notice much difference (except maybe the price). If you can buy 245 tires for less, that's probably your best choice.

I recommend 245/40F and 255/40R...get's some more meat on those rims and reduces understeer slightly. If it comes down to price though, I'd rather see you go with the factory recommended size in a better quality than the larger size in an inferior tire.
