Default 1st set of new tires

I need a replacement set of tires. I have about 24000 miles on my original set and need to replace the back 2 immediately. I know there are a variety of choices out there and wanted to hear what you guys have to say.

Here's the facts
-07 350z base model, no performance mods, stock rims and tires
-looking for a good tire (reasonably priced, none over $250 a tire, preferably less than $200), not the best tire
-daily driver now but I like to push my car (so something with a good amount of grip)
-I don't go on the track or race.(well at least not yet, would like to someday and drift)
-I like going wider but dont know if I could, please recommend a size.
-I'm thinking of buying from edgeracing, should I buy from there or anywhere else
-I heard that it might not be a bad idea to install it at the dealership, good or bad?

Questions
- My fronts still have some life to them. Should I buy all 4 now for a better discount or wait on the front 2?

I've read some posts here and they are recommending the Falken RT615,
Falken 452, Toyo Proxy 4, Hankook Ventus S1, Dunlop Direzza DZ101, Yokohama AVS ES100 or the Continental ContiExtreme,

Sumitomo HTRZ III, Bridgestone RE050A's and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's

I'm leaning towards the Sumitomo

edit: apparently the verdict on the Sumitomo is a no, how bout the Falken 452(lots of talk about these), Michelin Pilot Sport (had this before and loved it), Goodyear Eagle F1, Direzza Sport Z1

Definitely don't have different brands/model tires front and rear. That can lead to odd handling. If you are satisfied with how the car drives, try to stay with similar tire sizes.

That being said, I have the Kumho Ecsta XS's and I'm very happy with them. One of my best friends and track buddies has the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec blah blah whatever the rest of that long *** name is. Same buddy used to have Sumitomo HTRZ II and said they were the worst tires he ever used. I've never used the rest of those tires and don't know anybody I TRUST who has, so I can't comment on them.

With my Ecsta XS's I have to be going stupid fast on backroads to find their limits. I'm running 275's on all 4 corners. Stupid fast to me means dangerously and irresponsibly fast.

I have 8 track days and about 800 track miles under my belt to give you a reference of my experience.

I've used Toyo T1Rs for my last two sets; oem size. Thy last about 25,000 miles and will be fine for LA area.

Yes, on edgeracing; bought last two sets from them.

If your timing to keep cost down, go with OEM size; larger will increase cost.

Yes, on dealer install & get wheel alignment.

I paid around $800 for last set of Toyos delivered. Another $150 for installation & alignment at dealer.

Mixing tires is OK.

Several brands you listed are excellent. Several are turds. See: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ighlight=tires.

When I was replacing the set of mine, I thought about Michelin PS2, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and Bridgestone Potenza RE050A PP. PS2 was too expensive for me, GS-D3 didn't have front stock size so I went with Bridgestone RE050A PP. It has over 13,000 miles now, and I really like the tires.

the subaru guys like the direzza DZ101.

tirerack recently had a comparo with the direzza sport star spec and that ALMOST beat out (it came in a close 2nd) BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD, Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1, and Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07. that's a lot of high class competition!

a lot of the drift guys like federal 595 tires. they're cheap and summer spec. i know someone who has an infiniti G35C as his DD with 18" wheels rocking those. he claims they grip a lot better than the oem michelins ever did.

another cheap tire is the kumho SPT and ASX. i know from personal experience on the WRX that the ASX has pretty soft sidewalls but good dry and decent wet grip. they're good for the money you spend. general exclaim UHP is another performance bargain i might consider burning up on my S13.

if it were me and i had 18s i'd get the falken azenis 615. i rock those in 17" on my S13 and they perform awesome on the street. the sidewalls are pretty stiff. they're great in the dry, ok in the wet, not the quietest tire though. so it depends on what you're really looking for and how much you want to spend.

Why don't you READ before posting. He never ASKED about HTRZ nor HTRZ II's. Those aren't even the same tire so I don't know why you're giving your 2 cents. The HRTZ III are HIGHLY rated and beat out some great competition in testing, not to mention they are practically half the price of the tires they beat out.

The test results can be found here:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=93

I have them on my car and absolutely love them. You cannot go wrong especially at that price. I'll probably get another pair when these are finished.

if you're gonna get an all season it's hard to beat falken's 912 model for bang for the buck. and as previouly mentioned, kumho spt and asx are also good bang for the buck.

http://www.citytireonline.com/FalkenZE912.htm

if you want a stickier summer tire, check if hankook RS2's (not the S1's you mentioned in your original post) come in your sizes. toyo t1r and kumho mx will also be good.

you should only consider the bridgestone re01r, toyo r1r, dunlop * specs, kumho xs, etc if you plan on doing a lot of track time.

Can you get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport in the back and Michelin Pilot Sport 2 in the front?

i just put them on my volvo and only have about 1000 miles on so far. they're standard all seasons so i'm going to guess 25k+ miles.

grassroots motorsports did a comparo for budget tires and the 912's came out 1st. the yoko s.drives were second because they were more expensive than the 912's. they used the re01r as the benchmark tire for the autox time.

the magazine's one comment i did notice when i put them on my car was that on-center feel slightly vague, but they weight up nicely when you get some lateral g's on them.

if you're really concerned about the on-center steering feel you might want to check the sizes and prices for the s.drives and see if they're worth the extra cost.

I highly recommend General Tire's Exclaim UHP. Considerably less expensive and I would prefer them over the Bridgestone OEM tires any day.
