it looks like my stock wheel studs stick out of the wheel spacers a few threads too far. it's hitting the back of the wheel so I had to cancel installing it.

should I just grind the studs to be short enough or should I look into buying some new, shorter studs?

I should also mention that this is for some 19" TSW mondellos, not stock wheels. these are the 20mm's I am installing on the front, I have slightly smaller for the rear (15mm), so those will probably need to be grinded down a bit further.

Get better spacers !!! www.ichibausa.com pund out your stock lugs , pull new ones in , and bolt wheels on.

these are ichiba v2 with built in studs mang. I like built in studs better.

You do realize that replacing the stock studs with shorter studs would be the same amount of work as installing longer studs and using the corresponding spacer right?

I am working with what I got. I expected there to be no modification needed to my stock studs when I ordered my spacers - appreciate the helpful non obvious information though :]

I know my options, I'm just wondering what others have done in the past.

Do you have the ring that goes on the hub before placing the spacer on??

^ ring or not it shouldn't be like that. I had the same exact spacer IchibaV2 20mm, for my front wheels and i had no problem with the stock studs sticking out. BTW i didn't use my rings, it got destroyed trying to make it fit around the hub lol. Oh well now i have 30mm rear/25mm front.

Ichiba spacers are crap, in trying to remove them, the POS key with thier poorly design studs broke. FYI, be VERY careful when removing.

The stock lugs stick out exactly 1". Therefore you need 25 mm spaces or the lugs will be too long. I would not cut down the stock lugs. That seems to be the simple solution, but taking off your rotors and refitting them could be a problem with the threads on the ground down lugs.

these spacers come with hub centric rings on there already, you can see it poking out a bit in the picture. I think 25mm will be too much or I would go that route . in regards to them being a pain in the *** to take off - I don't think these will be as they just attach to the stock studs, there's no key or anything..

JPE - I think it will be different for different sets of wheels, mine are obviously built differently because they are bumping into the parts sticking out : )

anyone else able to provide insight? I am basically fishing for someone who has grinded down stock lugs so I know it's alright, because I don't really have a lot of options at this point.

why would there be any issues with taking off the rotors? please elaborate, and thank you for your input

OKAY, SOME ARE ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION, SOME ARE NOT! SOME ARE TALKING ABOUT TAKING YOUR NEW ICHABA PROVIDED STUDS OFF, ETC.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER: YES YOU CAN CUT YOUR OEM STUDS:

1. Remove your spacer from the car.

2. With the hub and STOCK studs only exposed - mount on a sacrificial set of open ended lug nuts all the way up to the hub, exposing the long unwanted end of the stock stud you plan on cutting off.

3. mount those lug nuts to where the ends of your oem studs can be grinded down.

4. get a grinder and grind at a 45 degree angle all around the edge of the stock stud and the face to make the stock stud shorter!

5. NOW back out the open ended lug nut that has been sitting on the oem stud out of the way so that you can clean up the threads and ensure they are usable.

6. so long as the sacrificial open ended lug nut comes off and goes back on easily you should be good to go with your new cut oem stud length.

7. If you f-up a stud - replace with a new shorter stud - start here: M12X1.25x42 (42 mm length) oem replacement - NAPA P/N 641-3210 $1.74 each, at the napa counter they can also get you shorter ones.....

his spacers do not have the key that your speaking of..........his spacers are the new V2 so they use like a typical 17mm socket (i believe) to remove.....see attached pic of his 20mm V2 spacers taken from ichiba's site with the attaching nuts that use a typical socket.

OP, the old spacer design used to have a freaky ridiculous key before.....thats all...

that summarized every question I could have come up with, thank you kindly. I was curious about replacement studs as well, I was thinking my only option was Nissan for stock studs but that is good to know : ]

I'm not a Boeing guy but I work inside of an ex-boeing building, we are leasing it from them anyways - I live and work very close to Boeing :]. I'm an IT guy for a .com retailer.

My work is in Mukilteo and I live in Everett.. Love Mukilteo, when I buy a house I'd like it to be here! it has that classy city mentality without all the crazy big city things like paying for parking and traffic.

right now I am just trying to find some locals that have the tools to grind it down.. otherwise I am stuck buying a metal file and going to town on these suckers. your instructions were pretty elaborate though so I think I am question free for the time being.

Hopefully this isn't all in vein and I end up needing to buy shorter studs all the way around anyways, that would be a bust!
