GENERAL WHEEL FITMENT QUESTION
Hello all - just had a quick question about wheel fitment and wanted to make sure i wasnt missing anything.
I am currently running 19x8.5 +31 wheels in the front of my car but the inside of my wheels rub everytime i try to do anything over a 45 degree turn. Using some online offset calculators i found, im thinking about switching to 18x7.5 +19 in the front (the calculators say it would work and give me about 25mm more of inner clearance)
Does this sound right to you guys? Or am i missing something?

That does not sound right. You don't need to go to the 7.5" wheel.
I am surprised the 8.5" w/ +31 offset rubs. What size tires are you running? If it is really rubbing on the inside, I would add a 5-10mm spacer. A good offset for a 8.5" wheel is in the +20 to +25 range, and the spacer will get you there.
There are people running 9"+ wheels (with the right offset), so there is no reason to go down to a 7.5" wheel.

Is it a positive or negative offset that you are writing about? On a positive offset, the plane of the hub mounting surface is shifted from the centerline toward the front or outside of the wheel. Is it rubbing on the outside or inside of the wheel well?
A positive 19mm offset will move the wheel outward by 12mm minus the inch (which isn't necessarily an inch because it's measured between the outboard flange and inboard flange).

That doesn't sound right. I run a 19x10 wheel upfront w/ a +30 offset and I run a 255/35/19 series tire on that wheel with no issues what so ever. No sure why your narrower wheel with almost same offset would give you issues.
Thanks or all the info so far. I guess, i should have let you guys know that this isn't for my Z, but for a custom car im putting together.
Currently with the 19x8.5 +31 wheels in the front, I get rubbing on the inside of the wheel well (inside backside of the wheel rubs when turning) - I had thought about going the spacer route but my current wheels are perfectly flushed with the fender and dont want them sticking out past that (wouldnt that seem a little too lowrider-ish?). So, in figured that if i reduce the width of the wheel and push it out a bit by playing with the offset, I could get the same (or close) type of flush with the fender with more inner clearance?
Thats why i was thinking about the 18x7.5 +19, since it would give me 25mm more of inner clearance and only move the outer position in by 1 mm (using this online calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp)
what do you think? does that sound like good technical reasoning? The last thing i want to do is spend a bunch of money on a custom wheel just to end up with the same problem!
