I am ready to purchase a set of T1R's in 255/35/19 next week but before i shell out the grand, I would like to hear some first hand feed back on tread wear. how is the wear? how many miles can you get out of them? those that have first hand experience please do share. if they wear too quick then i might as well go with the cheaper Yokohama S drive's in 245/35 and save myself the $200. keep in mind that these will be mounted on a FWD car and I will be able to rotate every 5k since all 4 will be the same size.

I have these tires on my street wheels for my 06 Z, i currently have about
23k miles on them-fronts have about 3-5k miles left and rears maybe
1-2k miles left. They have gotten noisier as they have gotten closer
to wearing out and rears are not doing real well in water now.

they are a very hard tire and will wear out quickly, they should last you about 20k-25k for the rears, fronts can go a little longer.

they grip like a mother though! love my t1r's. rain included. will see snow this weekend..

I can't quite remember how long Iv had them but maybe...10k miles?

There off the car since I went FI and they dont grab as much now(rear) with the power levels.

But IMO, I think they are great tires, that's why I run 265/35/19 T1R up front now.

I am not looking for tread wear only. I am looking for the lightest summer tire money can buy withouth breaking $230 and staying at or higher than 280 UTQG. I've narrowed it down to this and yokohama S drive's which are 300 UTQG. almost everything else (BFG KDW2, GY GSD3) weights a ton.

there is only 2-3 tires to choose from that weight under 25lbs in 245/35 or 255/35, offer 280 UTQG or higher, are rated summer and cost less than $230.

I would have gone yoko if they made the S drive in 255/35 but the T1R's are the ONLY tire that meet the criteria.



that doesnt make sense because hard tires last longer and soft tires last you less. I am coming from 360 tread wear on Falken ST115's and they went bald on me at 30k, although i have about 33k on them right now.

I am expecting them to last more on my car as I will have the same size all around and will be able to rotate every 5k. If i can squeeze 30k out of them then thats good for nearly 3 years.

Never heard of anyone shopping for tires by weight but if that is your criteria cool.

Really? rotational mass is #1 enemy of acceleration and greatly affects handling. T1r's extreme light weight is only one of the reasons why its such popular tuner tire.

saving just one pound per corner is equivalent to a 40lbs gross weight reduction.

take the treadwear ratings and toss em out the window - they really are meaningless quite honestly. As "standardized" as its supposed to be, they aren't even close. It can be meaningful when comparing tires within a brand to one another, but one manufacturer to another, it's sorta useless

so long as they are properly inflated and the car is aligned to spec, you'll easily get 20k out of them. I got just about 30k out of my set of T1S (T1R replaced them) on my Z...and that was with lots of camber as well, on a very lowered car

I have read exactly what you said many times on many forums. I wish the wear's were a bit more standardized.

by advans, do you mean the advan sport? I was refering to yokohama S drive's, if you are refering to the same tire then I would much rather stay away from them as i cant tolerate tire noise. do you have personal experience with S drive's?

I got 22K out of my set of rears, and 26-27K out of the fronts. The only reason I replaced my fronts was due to camber wear. I'm on my 2nd set now. They are very grippy also.

i change rears every few weeks...my fronts have about 10k on them, pretty close to the wear bar. for the kind of driving i do, im happy with them.

I'm honestly thinking of trying out a set of Vredestein Sessanta if I can't get a great deal locally on T1R's when my 19s finally come in. Heard lots of great things about them and they seem to be a bit cheaper than Toyos. Only negative reviews I came across were from guys that did heavy tracking which I don't plan on doing anyways.

not much of an adventure to tell. for the first couple of days they handled just fine, maybe even better then fine, in ice and a max of two inches of snow.

then we got hit really hard, I parked on compacted snow and ice and my car was burried under a foot and a half of snow. I couldn't even get it out of the parking spot, tires just spun spun spun .. I had to shovel off the entire parking spot, stab away at the ice under the tires, just to get it to move.

winter car the Z is not, T1R's are not winter tires, but this isn't news to anyone. : )

I just put them on today at Americas Tire. They wanted $308 for 255/35/19 but agreed to price match for MUCH LESS based on an online vendor. you should do the same..

Coming from 245/35/19 Falken Azenis ST115, the difference is night and day. aside from the immediatly handling improvements, the biggest difference indeed is the ride quality. I now realize just how stiff those crappy falkens were. even the smallest rock was felt in the cabin. riding on the toyos makes me feel like i am sittin on a pillow. they absorb everything up. Its a shame for falken to adverise that tire as a "luxury sedan" tire. pathetic traction, disgusting ride quality, poor handling. only thing it had going for it was the fact that there was virtually no road noise and they lasted me 35k. loving the Toyo's right now. cant wait till i put them on the traction test.
