Default New Guy Needs Help Please

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this forum. So I hope you can guys help me out. I just bought a 03 Touring 350z and some 19 inch rims. The problem is after I installed my rims. I notice that my SLIP light would come on when I'm at 20mph. My car then would start slowing down. So I took off the rims and went back to stock. No problems now. The only problem now is I really like these rims and lug patterns fits my car. Is there any way I can still use these rims? Would it help if I change my tires? My current tire settings for the 19s are the following.

Front: 245/45 R19 (98Y)
Rear: 295/30Z R19 (100Y)

I'm sorry I'm new when it comes to buying rims for the 350z, especially a car with LSD. If someone can help me out. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Your front tire is way too big. You can get by with 245/35-19 in the front. I run 245/35-19 in the front and 275/30-19 in the rear and have to leave the TDC off any time I drive. Pretty much the diameter differences trick the computer into thinking the rear tires are slipping.

Thanks man. Oh I see. So it's not rear wheel that's causing the problem, it's the front. So if change the front to 245/35-19 and keep my rear 295/30-19. This should eliminate the slipping light issue right? Or would I have to turn off my VDC everytime I drive?

Welcome. The front tires are taller than the rear.

It's not really one tire or the other. It's a compromise of the outside diameter of both. They need to be pretty close. I'm not sure of a difference tolerance.

Ok I'm starting to understand this. What about the width of my rear tire (295)? Is that width ok? I guess what I'm asking is what portion should I pay most attention to when buying tires for my rims? Is this width to large, or should this be fine?

The rear width is fine , the proper size front tire is a 275/30 to go with your rear and not add a S load of understeer to your already understeering car. What width are your wheels, and offsets?

True, but most people can't fit a 275 because of aggressive offsets that come on popular wheels such as volks/works. I myself have 295/255 and i defiently want to reduce some understeer and get a 265 front but my offset is giving me a hard time

Ok so I'll just have to buy new fronts. To answer your question, the wheels rear offset is 45 and the front is 40. As for tires, the rear is 295 and the front is 245.

ok first off....you def have the wrong offset.

your wheels are going to be tucked in alot and would require some wheel spacers to fix that...

secondly, whats the width of your rims??????

I checked it out again the offset are the following.

Front: (Offset = +40) (Width = 19x8 OJJ)
Rear: (Offset = +35) (Width = 19x9 1/12 JJ)

From doing some research on the net. I think the rear and front offset should be fine, but again I'm new at this. What's your guys take? Never had this much trouble buying rims before

Your rear wheels are 26.0" tall. Your fronts are 27.7" tall. You need the front within 3% of the rear. A good replacement front would be 245/35/19, which is 25.8" tall. Otherwise you'll have to turn off the VDC every time you drive the car (unless you want to deal with the studder caused by the tire sizes you have). And if you don't like how "tucked" the wheels are, you can always add a spacer at each corner, or just the front or just the rear, to place them where you like them. A 15mm front spacer and 10mm rear spacer are conservative starting spots for you to try.

Use a offset calculator to compare your current wheels to the new wheels. With the new dimensions, check the car with a tape. Do you clear the suspension, brakes calipers and fenders? Reference: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

Well, you need some 245/35 fronts and you need 275/35 rears. Your rear wheels are to narrow to support 295's. Actually you also need wider wheels with the proper offsets or spacers. I would get different wheels.

Yeah your right. I'll just return the wheels and get 18s instead. As much I like these rims, it really isn't worth everything I have to do to fit it. All you guys have been a big help. Thanks a lot.

Wow, a helpful non-flaming thread... Hope you don't have issues on the return, OP. -- 295 on a 9" wheel is scary.
