Default Sumitomo HTR Z III Tires

Anyone have experience with Sumitomo tires? These were recommended after I found out there was a wait on Toyo Proxes T1R's. Any other tire recommendations, looking for 245-40-18 and 275-40-18.

Same here i had the Sumitomo tires on my Lexus is300. The sidewalls are the ****. I actually blew out driver side tire after hitting a pothole.. Tires was about 4 weeks old..
Then i went with Kumho's sidewalls bubbled but the tires lasted me more than a yr until i sold them... Hold out and wait for the Toyo or look elsewhere Sumitomo is garbage

They are garbage if you want to drive hard, I traded my car in with some of those on the rears, you get what you pay for.

I firmly stand by them. They are on their 3rd gen (hence HTR III) and have updated the design. I'm now on my second set, love them, no issue's and they are cheap. I did my R&D on these and on dry track, they grip better than RE050's - they aren't the best in wet grip but summers here anyway but I drove in the winter w/ no problems anyway. I'd say yes!

Motormouth - that's a response I would expect from my grandson -a five year old. Go play on the freeway with some knives and free up some of that free air your wastin'.
To the others that actually said something, thanks for the replies and I had a feeling I would receive negative press on them. That's probably one of the reasons they only wanted 113.00 for the 240 and 137 for the 275.

I have no idea what you are trying to say or talking about.

I had the sumitomos for a long time, and just ordered another set. I have driven through a ton of potholes and guess what... they are perfectly fine. drove on them in the summer, fall and winter. great summer traction, good, predictable handling and wet weather performance. never had an issue. I always recommend them, especially for the price. Toyos are mediocre tires and that is the truth. Sumis performed as good as my Goodyear Eagle GSD3s and at a fraction of the cost.

OP, if you need a hookup for tires, PM me and I will give you my dealer who gets great pricing.

don't be a ****. you are the one who created a thread for a rudimentary question where multiple threads (and a pretty lengthy one) already exists not to mention tons of online resources outside of this forum exist (tirerack, for one). you didn't even put the minimum of effort into the thread or thought so **** yourself, what do you think you are gonna get?

I have more knowledge of this car, and these tires that you will probably have by the time you leave this forum so take your ******** noob attitude and shove it up your ***. be grateful I read your worthless thread.

yeah I am sure you 'drive hard'. For an NA Z (I don't own a high HP TT), they are an amazing tire (cost wise especially). great breakaway characteristics, fairly quiet and lateral stability is good. I did a few miles on the tail of the dragon pretty 'hard' and I was able to put some distance on other similar cars. I do have a fairly sorted suspension (coil-overs, LSD, bushings, corner balancing and alignment) so obviously a weak set of tires will stand out terribly.

my only issue is I thought they would last longer on the rears, but the diff is fairly aggressive. but wear was even (unlike potenzas) and I didn't get any bubbles (GSD3s are prone to this) for once. For inexpensive tires, the split is this:

- 19s: go with Vredesteins (the Sumis don't have many 19 inch sizes)
- 18 and lower: go with Sumitomo HTR ZIII (Vreds don't have a great selection of 17 and 18 inch fitments)

sure you can spend $1200 for PS2s, or $500 for these. and yes, obviously there will be a tradeoff (mostly wet weather performance and comfort).

I never had experience with Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires but I have toyo same tire size as your on my Volk and I would not change them for any other brand. They are a much quieter than my stock Potenza and better grip. They take on bumps better . If you can wait then go with Toyo proxes T1R .

Half these replies are so stupid.

1. All Sumitomos are not the same. "I owned sumitomos once and they sucked" is a ******** reply. I haven't heard a single person who has owned the htrzIII complain about them. Every reply from someone who said they sucked, don't even know what model tire they were even using and have never used the htrzIII in the first place.

2. These tires are rated very highly. They were number one in tests against the RE050A, ADVAN Sport, etc performed by tirerack.

3. I have these tires and I love them. They are way better than stock and they are cheap as hell.

Sorry i have to be clear for cheap *****s like you trying to justify the tire on your car... The Sumitomos HTR 3 was the tire i ran on my car. ON my Car IT lasted less than a 1 month, 27 Days to be exact. The tire it exploded after hitting a pothole and was garbage.
I wish i had taken a picture just for you.. I played cheap buying low end tires like these. After blowing a tire going 60 on the Highway perhaps your mind will change buying cheap ****.. You get what you pay for, reason why this tires are cheap as hell as you put it

Any tire can blow after hitting a pothole. I hit a pot hole that went to the center of the earth last February and blew out a Dunlop tire.

While not the exact tire the original poster is speaking of, I had Sumitomo HTR II tires on my Stealth and loved them. I don't believe there is anything inherently wrong with Sumitomo tires.
