Default Anyone have MICHELIN Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires?

I live in SC, so I dont exactly need A/S tires, but I am tired of spending $1k on tires that last 15-20k miles.

These tires have a tread wear rating of 500, so I figure I could get 30k miles out of them, and if they wear evenly, they have a tread wear warranty so I get some money back.

Anyone have these tires? Are they any good? How do they compare to summer tires as far as handling and steering response?

Thanks

Has anyone had any problems with 245/45 all the way around? I read up on it and it seems this would be the limit on what the TCS/ABS could handle without freaking out.

Would be nice to be able to rotate, but if there is any chance of problems I will just go for 245/40 front and 245/45 rear.

I don't have them, but I suggested them for my mother's 03 G Sedan. They are solid A/S tires, they handle snow from Nov-Feb/March...you can't exactly plow your way anywhere but better than summer tires obviously.

Summer handling is average, nothing special in any department but compared to a full summer tire, the compromise in handling isn't bad at all. I try to check up on her car occasionally and take it for a spin, and she has never had summer tires on, but compared to the OEM Goodyear RS-As, they are much better.

Depending on how you drive 30k should be very possible with these tires, keep the PSI checked and you will be just fine. If you don't care about the moderate loss of performance (which let's be honest we rarely need/use in a DD), you will love the tire.
But there are plenty of cheaper options as well for A/S...if you again don't care so much about the handling loss.

I care about handling but I dont track the car, so extra extreme grip isnt important.

No personal experience, but I've only heard great things.

I do not have experience with the tire you ask about, but I can say that I’ve run many different Michelin tires on all sorts of vehicles (sports cars, SUV’s, Trucks, etc.) over the last 36 years.

My opinion of Michelin is that they make an absolutely great tire. You cannot buy a better tire than a Michelin for any use (off-road, snow tires, all-season, performance, etc.).

As to your question about “all-square” and 245mm wide tires on 18” wheels:

Go with 245/45-18” all-around (and do not mount 245/40-18” all-around). I have a 2003 Performance model Z (and thus VDC). I’ve run both 245/45-18” and 245/40-18’ all-square, and I had poor experience with the 40 profile and good results with the 45 profile on all corners.

Ya I never had problems with Michelin, except for there price.

I currently run 245/40/18 front and 245/45/18 rear which runs fine, and I was thinking that if I could just do 245/45/18 all the way around I could rotate, and get many more miles out of my tires. Thankfully the 2003 18" wheels are exactly the same front and rear, atleast from what I can tell.

Thanks for confirming it works

How are the tires working out?
I need to get new tires (all 4) as well and have the choice between the Pilot A/S (224.00) and the PS2 (239.00). I live in Florida so we dont have snow however he do have a lot of rain during summer months.
I understand the PS2 will probably handle better but the A/S will grip better in rain since its an all season tire?
I still have stock tires which have lasted me around 21,000 but we're going into rainy season here and I can't afford to ride on them anymore as they're almost going bald.
The price difference is minimal and I'd tend to lean towards the PS2 but I dont know how they handle in the rain......

Fairly new tire and has been well received since the debut. I'd say 30-35K miles isn't out of the question. Currently the top ranked tire in our survey as well. The original Sport A/S was a great tire and they improved upon the original with the Plus. A bit longer life, better all season/wet, and a tad quieter. If they are in the budget it's a great tire to have.

I have about 1000 miles on my set and I must say it has greatly improved the ride over the OEM Bridgestone’s. Much quieter. Handling is great and the ride over bumps seems less bone jarring.
