Quality of knock offs.
I tried searching, i'm sure there is a thread but maybe i wasn't looking for the right key words.
Either way I am going to soon be looking at getting some rims and I know I can't afford 3000$ for a set of volks and living down in Hialeah/Miami FL the roads are crap. I am looking at some decent looking knock offs(don't worry im not going to rebrand them).
I wanted to hear some opinions of what brands to look at and which to avoid all together. I obviously know of Drag and Rota, what are some others to look at? also as a daily driver (not on a track or strip) how is the quality? I know I will not be getting light rims and all for what i'm going to be spending but quality vs. buck. Has anyone here experienced any trouble(not just read or seen pics online)?
Thanks for your help.
The ones I saw I like are Drag DR-32 vs. Rota P-45R probably in 18s.

not saying the better quality ones will fail if they hit a big enough pot hole. but your chances increase by using the cheaper ones and when hitting smaller ones also.
Such a worthless comment.
Get any wheels you want that are in your price range, you dont HAVE to get Volks or Works or Glights or any of those. I could have easily afforded Works or Enkeis etc. And even though they a few (bad batch of about 50 wheels)cracked like 6-7 years ago, i still picked up the Axis Hiros cause quite frankly i dont track and i love the way they look. I trusted Axis has fixed the problem in 6 damn years...and they have.
If you look hard enough youll find almost every wheel brand has had failures. If you dont track and your on a budget get whatever you want, but as a rule of thumb i would choose mid level company and stay away from Ruff racing, Konig, etc. I only say this because finish may fade or wear easier and offsets are horrible.
Dont worry about wheel failure, cause it's 99.99999% not gonna happen.
I have rota's and I love them, no issues.
I have bought volks in the past, spent $5k on impuls at one point (different car and 4 years ago) sure they looked awesome...but bleh....I spent less then $1k on my setup and I am happy as can be with it.

Get whatever you want. Rotas are great wheels, and Dan at wheeldude.com will give you a deal. People hate replicas because they are copycats at lower prices, while these people have "replica" nismo kits and wings installed....I don't get it.

As others have mentioned, the majority of "hate" stems from wheels having similar designs to other "higher end" wheels. I can't comment on some of the other manufactures, however I would like to share some info regarding Rota Wheels.
A common misconception is the amount of R&D that goes in to a Rota wheel and also the quality of these wheels. I've been to the Rota plant and seen these wheels produced, tested, etc.. There is definitely a lot of work involved in to making a wheel and money is saved as labor in the Philippines is cheaper and they are a cast wheel so the entire manufacturing process isn't as expensive.
I definitely stand behind these products as I truly believe they are quality wheels. I've ran tons of wheels over the years including Volk, Work, etc.. and I still love Rota wheels and run them daily on my car on the street, on the track, etc.. PAWI (the company that manufactures Rota wheels) has been in business since the 1970's and has been producing quality wheels for a long time. They manufacture a ton of wheels for the OEM markets (Toyota, Ford, Datsun, Isuzu, Mercedes-Benz, VW, etc..). We also visit Rota and fly all the way from the US to the Philippines to attend meetings, review our upcoming wheels, monitor production, etc.. This is a product we believe in and hope you guys can see that.
A few pictures from our trip last year
production meetings

looking over different wheel finishes for our new releases

no R&D?? please.... every wheel is blue printed, goes through computer simulations for testing, produced, tested on various equipment to ensure all JWL/VIA standards are met, etc..

again you say no R&D? Every new wheel is tested thoroughly to make sure they exceed all JWL/VIA test standards, this alone proves they are strong wheels and can withstand a lot of abuse

Toyota? Yep the largest car manufacture in the world runs Rota's

If you wants a decent set of wheel that does not cost too much, just go with Enkei. They have good reputations and been on racetrack for decades. They doesn't cause that much more from Rota, and have much better reputation.
Enkei > Rota
Enkei > Rota

wait.. let me correct myself. enkei, enkei, and enkei.
