Default Hoosiers as street tires?

For those with experience tracking/autocrossing on Hoosiers, what do you think about the feasability of using Hoosiers as street tires? I am not concerned with wear, or water displacement characteristics. I am simply concerned with the physical construction of the tire and if it will be able to withstand the rigors of public roadways. I ran Kumho Ecsta V700's for almost two years on my last car without any problems, but the only company that sells R compounds that will maintain the proper stagger and wheel diameter in a 17 inch wheel for the Z is Hoosier. Thanks.
