Default Largest Tires for a Stock 03 Track?

I noticed my tires are going to nedd replacing soon and was wondering what the widest and lowest aspect tire I can fit on my 03 track model without problems like rubbing or throwing the VDC off. I did a search and it looks like a 245/40/18 up front and a 275/40/18 in the rear. Is this a correct combination? Also, anyone have experience with the Hankook Evo V12 tires?
Thanks.

245 is ok on an 8" wheel.
275 is larger than recommended for an 8.5" wheel.

Had you searched you would have found that this has been discussed several times, include two in the last few weeks....

Check on Tirerack, Discount Tire Direct and any number of tire dealer sites and you'll see that the widest recommend tire on a 8½" wheel is a 265.

275 on a 8.5" looks sorta goofy. Id probably do a 235 front and 255 rear to keep sidewalls from looking like my beer belly.

Instead of a wider tire how about a better tire? In other words a superior 245 mm tire will outperform a mediocre 275 mm tire any day.

Nothing with the correct overall diameter that will fit those wheels. 265's and 275's require at least a 9". Not much you can do w/out new wheels.

I've been running 275s on the stock track wheels for the past four years. They don't look goofy, nor do they look squeezed -- and I get really good tire wear as well.

I respect your views, so I will simply ask what brand/model of tire? Maybe it is one that runs more narrow than others.

Correct me if I wrong, but you're not daily driving/streeting those - isn't that for autocross only. I'm running 265s on track wheels, but for autocrossing. Sure they're squeezed on the wheel, that's why it's not recommended by manufacturers.

Do you have any pics of the 275 on the track wheels? I have 265's now and dont think they look bad at all on the 2003 track wheels.

Nope, 245/40R18 front and 275/40R18 rear, Kumho ASXs are my daily drive tires. 285/30R18 Kumho V710s or 295/30R18 Hoosier A6s are my autocross tire.

The front 245s are square on the wheel (and are a lot better than the 225s that were WAY too narrow). The rear 275s are only a bit wider than the wheel (maybe a total of 3/4 inch -- 3/8 inch per "side"), and unless you look really hard, you wouldn't really notice it. 265s would be "better" but don't discount 275s -- a 40-series tire has quite a bit of sidewall.

As another example, 285/30R18s are a pain to mount. 295/30R18s just about drop on all four wheels -- even the 8-inch.

Oh, and looking at the picture above, that's about what my 275s look like as well.
