Question Question about aspect ratio.

I am pricing new tires. And I know jack-**** about tire sizing.

I've discovered that if I look at a 225/40/18 tire for the front, as opposed to the OEM size, it is up to 35% cheaper.

What danger might there be if I were to opt for a 225/40/18 front tire and an OEM 245/45/18 rear tire?

You don't say what year and trim your Z is. I'm assuming that your stock tires are the 224/45 front and 245/45 rear?

If that is the case, I think you will be really unhappy with the result of a 224/40 front. The 225/40 is almost an inch shorter than the stock front tire. This would result in a stagger of about 1.6 inches which will likely create issues with your VDC or traction control. I'd stick with the stock size tire if I were you.

What tires are you looking at where there is such a large difference in the pricing?

Look for 245/40 fronts , they will maintain the proper stagger and its a more popular size than stock.

2008 Enthusiast, stock wheels.

225/45/18 front.
245/45/18 rear.

I have a similar situation as the OP,

I plan on putting 225/40/18 fronts and 225/45/18 rear for my winter tires.

But as Terra said 225/40 is .9" smaller than OEM size but if i put 225/45 for the rears, i would still be keeping similar staggered ratio compared to stock right???

My NEW diameter would be 25.1"/F 26"/R
OEM diameteer is at 26"/F 26.7"/R .2" difference overall

Question: Do you have one set of wheels, and you plan to swap your summer and winter tires on the same wheels?
