Default Anybody with aftermarket 18x8 all around? Need advice.

I was wondering if it made any difference if I bought 18s with the same width front and rear since the stock non-track 18s come in the same width rim. Why do most prefer wider rears aside from look/wider tire fit etc. Im planning on getting 18x8s or 7-1/2? and putting the stock size tires around. All I wanna do is shed a couple lbs and get stickier tires. Is this gonna compromise performance/handling? Should I go wider than stock and if so how much. Thanks.

Same width Front and Back OK. However, when fitting tires it"s important to keep the stagger. 8" all the way around would mean 225/45s (F) and 245/45s (R) or 245/40s (F) and 255/45s (R). A wider wheel (9.5") in back would allow a 275/40 tire. BTW I'm selling my G35C rims with tires (Michelin Pilot Sports). 5K miles and 18 by 8s all the way around. Any Interest?

So getting the only thing staggered sizes do is increase lip/looks,wider tire correct? Just making sure im not missing out on too much by getting 18x8s all around.
