Default Can Z tires be rotated?

Hi guys, I just read Jason@Performance's thread on rotating tires, and I'd like to know if mine can be rotated. My front is 245/40/18 and my rear is 275/40/18. I don't have TPMS. Thanks.

Mondo repost, but of course you can't go front to rear. You could go sided to side, but I wouldn't.

You're not rotating them, you're swapping them side-to-side. You can only do that if your tires are not asymetric. Look around the outside of the tire and see if it's marked "Outside", if so, you can't do the swap because that would put the "outside" edge on the inside.

How could that be Dave? If he takes the right rear to the left rear, the "outside" is still the same. Of course it would be rotating (turning) the opposite direction, but the "sides" are still the same.

Swapping the tires involves dismounting them and remounting them on the opposite side of the car. Keep in mind that this came about as a fix for the feathering problem, which affected the inner tread block. The Bridgestones, like most UHP tires are also directional, so you can't take the wheel/tire from one side and put it on the other because it would be rotating the wrong direction.

By dismounting the tires and swapping sides, the inner edge becomes the outer edge on the other side. That leaves you with "new" unfeathered/unworn inner edges. You also maintain rotation direction.

See?

This is not true. The RE050s are not directional (and most UHP are not either), and you can move the wheel & tire from the left to the right, which will even out tire feathering.

It was true on the RE040s on which the feathering problem occurred which Jason's thread was about.

Oh, yes the RE040 is directional. But I was also disputing your thinking because of this post:

You can swap tires side-to-side if they are asymetric - just take the wheel off and put it on the other side

Technically you could swap the tires by removing and remounting them on opposite wheels. But thats not the way the tires were designed, because then you have the outside of the tire on the inside, and vice a versa. If the tread pattern is symmetrical side to side this probably wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I doubt the tire shop would do it.

If you just swap the wheels yourself, the directional (or asymmetrical) tread pattern is pointing backwards and will cause weird tread wear. Because as far as your tires are concerned, your essentially driving in reverse more than forwards.

Most tires i've seen will say "Rotation" and be inside of an arrow pointing which way the tires are supposed to rotate when driving forward to make sure they are mounted properly.

Just live with them for awhile if there isn't too much wear from the negative camber on the outsides.... otherwise it's time to buy new ones.
