Default Tire feathering on an 08Z

Hey fellas,
I just got my Z back from the dealer and the mechanic told me my front tires are starting to wear on the inside. He stated my car is going to need a wheel alignment to fix this problem. I brought my car to Firestone and the mechanic there showed me the problem. It was what I had feared...tire feathering. I thought this issue was only a problem on the older model Z's, but apparently I must be an exception. After my alignment, the tire roar went away but came back only after a few hundred miles. It goes away again after I give the tires a quick shot of air too but it comes back again. Anyone else out there with a 07-08 Z that had this problem too? Thoughts? I have to call corporate Nissan to talk about this.

here are some additional info that might help good experts on this forum answer this..

1. is the issue front or the rear? or both?
2. tire wear even or uneven inside?
3. car been lowered?
4. post up the alignment result.

5* post it up on suspension tech section might work better.
===================================================

with my limited knowledge,, you prob kno 80% of it but just to re-iterate,

1. see if it is even wear inside or uneven. if it is uneven, it's prob a feathering issue-> get the alignment sheet and check the toe settings are correct.

2. if it is even, i could still be toe issue but there is a chance it is a camber. however, if the toe is aligned correctly, camber has to be like -3 or more negative to cause excess wear inside. if the car is stock, i'm highly suspicious of toe settings.

my 2cents,, take it a any good alignment shop ,, and that USUALLY excludes firestone unless you know there is a good/reliable tech.

anyways, good luck

Negative camber wear and feathered tires are different. How many miles are on the tires? Photos appreciated.

BTW shops love to sell alignments.

I'll post up the results next time I get an alignment. Which will be after my next oil change. The tires have about 10K on them. I started hearing the roar at about 8K. Front tires are showing signs of even feathering on the insides. Car hasn't been lowered. I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow. It's raining elephants over here.

10,000 miles is about the right time to swap the tires.

Well considering the Z33 from 03 to 2008 used the same suspension (excluding shocks, spring and sway rates that have nothing to do with feathering) how could it not become an issue. Its just an alignment, very simple, all cars go out of alignment from time to time. Maybe you thought yours was the exception for a car that would never go out of alignment.
