Question Got a screw in my tire and got some questions

Crap I discovered this while washing my car. I am now trying to figure the best solution to get this fix. Should I pull it out and drive to the tire shop? or should I drive it as is to the tire shop? Also when they repair the hole is it pretty safe to drive? Asking because I track my car with these tires.

^ My finger points how far in this screw goes in my tire

Take it to the shop and have them remove/repair it.

You can't fix it if it's too close to the sidewall but in your particular situation you should be fine.

Repaired tire loses its speed rating - therefore no longer usable on the track. Most facilities put that warning in their rules for street tires.

The damage is on the edge of the tire. You know the answer.

ya, i agree.......you'll be fine, as thats NOT the sidewall and looks to be at least an inch away from the sidewall curvature and on the contact patch of the tire.....also its the outside, with the camber on these cars, that section isnt highly loaded other than cornering......

that brings up track? what track?? autoX.......youll be fine..

road racing, etc...........up to you buddy..but i wouldnt think you would use your road racing tires on the street........so i would guess your talking autoX...

is that a front or rear tire....i see the coilovers, but guessing off its size, im guessing rear??

At the angle that nail is in im betting it didnt even fully pierce the tire. Its definetly repairable.

My wife just had one about a week or two ago. The tire shop was only a couple of blocks away and it was raining so I drove. Normally I would have jacked up the car and removed the tire so I could take it there in another car.

You could also try and do it yourself. I have had positive experiences with those DIY kits over the years.

It doesn't even look like it went right through, unless that is one of your screws and you know it is a long sucker... I would just get a screw driver and slowly unscrew it, wear some safety glasses just incase the tire releases pressure but it isn't going to go BOOM!

I track street tires, I don't want to have to afford R-comps/wheels. I wouldn't take all seasons on a track though lol.

If it's not a runflat tire or have a heat righ around the sidewall from you driving around with the tire flat, it is safe to repair. bring it to a shop that plugs it and also patches it from the inside. it will be safe after the patch.

I had a puncture that was about that close to the firewall recently. The tire shops wouldn't touch it so I plugged it with a kit and rubber cement. Drove on it for at least 1,000 miles without a problem.

A part of me think that it didn't go through. I can't believe I didn't even think about remove the rims and take it to a tire shop haha. I was probably too frustrated thinking about it when I posted it up. FYI I do AutoX and Jason yup it is for the rear. I did a quick eye measures and it is about 1.5 -2 inches away from the sidewall. I will try to make some time this week to work on it. Sucks that this happen. I have less than a hundred miles on them.

My winter beater now has slime in 3 of the tires, it shakes like it's got the beeheeveejeevees driving on the big highways. It helps stir my coffee on trips lol.

Remove wheel with tire. Bring to repair shop. Do not track if it needs to be plugged or patched.
