Question Ace Wheels, your thoughts?

Thinkin' about maybe getting a set of Ace wheels for my ride. Any input on quality? Anyone with these wheels?

Are there Ace wheels that are properly sized for the Z? I haven't seen any...

They are pretty low on the quality scale, but not the lowest.

The Performance & Touring 18" wheel and the "G" wheels are not staggered either. The tires installed on them make the stagger.

Different size widths of front/rear . Ex. front could be 8.5" wide while the rear is 9.5" wide.

As far as the quality of ACE wheels, I dont know. But these look good. (BMW Hamann style)

The stock 18" wheel/tire combo that comes on the "Z", "G", and other performance cars (eg. the Vette for example) are staggered. On the "G" and the "Z" that is done by using different tire sizes front to back. The VDC is built around this stagger, as are the suspension components. This stagger must not be upset or it will alter the way the car handles and could affect the VDC. On our cars the front tire is a 225/45/18 that has an OD (outer diameter) of 25.8" - the rear is a 245/45/18 tire that has an outer diameter of 26.8" - a difference of 1". If you change the front tires say, you also must change the rears to keep the stagger. Example going to a 245/40/18 or 245/35/19 front and a 275/40/18 or 275/35/19 rear. Both these front tires have the same OD as the stock tire, and the same with the sizes I listed for the rear. The catch here is that you must use rims wide enough to handle these sizes. In the case of the sizes I listed above the fronts should be 8.5" wide and 9.5" out back. This applies to both the 18s or the 19s.

However, if you're going from 17s to 18s and want to use the sizes the come stock, 225/45 and 245/45 you could use 8" wide wheels all the way around (not stagger the wheels, just the tires) or go with 8.5" wide in back like the Track does.

Thus the stagger could be done with tires only, or the tire/wheel combo.

I hope all this makes sense to you?

Lou

good point LOU, also, you can add a spacer to the rear wheel to bring it out more towards the wheel well, making it look more aggressive. It will add wt, BUT generally cheap wheels wiegh more anyways, so I am sure that is not a HUGE issue there.

ace wheels are ok by me. i think i am the only person with ace wheels on their z so far. so far so good. no problems yet. they are kinda heavy, but then again they are 19s. i like the way the rims look and i got a pretty good deal on my set. so with the money i saved i can spend on other mods.

Good point. I hear they aren't the lightest wheels in the world also, but I like the look of the ones I'm really interested.

Those are nice. The lip will make the wheel look smaller than it actually is. Okay for me if I'm goin' with a 19" wheel.

I just got my ADR Cyphers in GM installed on my SB and they look great. They are 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rears, +35 offset, with 245/40 front tires and 275/40 rear tires. The pic kbomb posted is the Bronze version.
