Question Toyo T1-S vs. FALKEN FK-451

Toyo T1-S's and FALKEN FK-451's are the two tires I'm considering for the TE-37's (19x8.5 19x9.5). Toyo has these sizes for front and rear - 245/40/19, 275/35/19 vs. Falcon's that have 245/40/19, 285/35/19.
What tire is the best for the Z in your opinion?

there is no comparison between these 2 tires IMHO.....Toyo's tend to offer more grip, and a more predictable breakaway at the edge in my experiecne on RWD cars. Plus, theya re among the lightest tires out there, which for some is an added bonus.

Smile Toyo Vs. Falken

I have Toyo Proxes T1S's on my Roadster. 245/40/18 & 275/40/18 and love them. The only thing I read about the falken's that was negative was that they tend to be noiser than the Toyo's.

Now....I have never heard the Falken's but my Toyo's are wisper quiet and also stick like glue to the road.

Just my opinion.............Happy Motoring

Actually I've heard some good things about Falkens. I had a same attitude as you before talking to a couple of guys who had them on. One of the guy's owns a performance shop and has them on his M3. Now think. He has access to any tire he could possible want with a big discount and he chose Falkens. He told me not to rule Falkons out just yet as FK-451 is a great tire.
That brings me to a second question. Is your opinion based on the experience with these tires or you are just saying the above because of the brand name difference?

why 245/40 in the front instead of 245/35?

Because of the ratio of sidewall height to width.
If I go with 245/35 then the side wall on a front tire will be 10.5mm smaller compared to the rear tire. Where if I go with 245/40 it is only 1.75mm bigger.

245-35 and 275-35 or 285-35 are the sizes you would need...not 40 series

well the biggest reason is that
stock = 25.97 f 26.68r
and your sizes = 26.72 f 27.66r

so we're about an inch taller than stock to start with

I've just calculated the Tire Diameter and here are the numbers:

Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter

front:
245X.40=98mmX2=196mm+482.6mm(19")=678mm
245X.35=85.75X2=171.5mm+482.6mm=654.1mm

rear:
275X.35=96.25mmX2=192.5mm+482.6mm=675.1mm

What am I missing?

I see your point now, in comparison to the stock sizes.

The rear is 275/35. Falken makes 285/35.

Actually, with 245/40 275/35 set up, the rear is going to be slightly smaller then stock (which is good) and the front will be .8 bigger but the side wall will be closer to the rear then with 245/35 set up.

Just from what I heard, Falkens are heavy but are pretty good once their warmed up.

I prefer BF Goodrich or Toyo

I can't comment on the Falkens but I can comment on the Toyos. So far I love these tires. They grip the road and let you know when they are being pushed to hard. With the stock RE040, driving in the rain plain sucked. I do not know about the Falken wet weather handling, but the Toyo is superb and I feel much safer driving my car in the rain as a result. I compared both when I was looking to buy, and it came down to the reputation and reviews posted by a lot of people in favor of Toyo. I was suprised to see that they were similar in cost when I went shopping. I figured the Falken would save me some money, but not the case so I went with what was reviewed as the better tire and am extremely happy. This does not mean the Falken is a poor tire. I think either way you will have great tires.

OK.
I've decided on the tires. I'll get the Toyo's but with these specs:
Front: 255/35/19 (for the sake of keeping the sizes close to stock)
Rear: 275/35/19
Thanks for everybody’s help.

Ive got t1-s on my g35 and had them on my 02 maxima. Best tire ive ever owned. Ive got falken on my 99 yukon (20 inch) and I would not buy them again. There is a reason that the falken are cheaper than the toyos beleive me i know it is experience.

who ever is talking smack about the 451's obviously has never tried them out. I had friends the same way asking why i bought the 451's, but now they swear by them. Hands down one of the best tire ive had. Even when they were worn down they were still as quiet and comfortable as they were brand new.
