Hey guys, I just picked up a 2007 CLS550 w/AMG package and wheels. They are the exact wheels you see on a 2006 CLS55. I know this is a bit off topic from 350z's, but I need new tires and a friend has some tires laying around and I need some feedback from you guys. So the offsets for the wheels are 19x8.5F and 19x9.5R. The official specs for tires are 255/35/19 and 285/30/19. A friend has brand new tires laying around that he wants to sell, but the specs are 235/35/19 and 265/30/19. What do you guys think? Would they fit good? What would I need to be worried about with stretched tires? Any unusual wear? Also what do you guys think about toyo proxes 4's? Thanks guys.

 

okay well I just looked into tire sizes and those tires wouldn't be stretched at all (which is good), but do you think the width difference btween 265s and 285s would be that noticeable? I prefer wider looking tires, but I dont see 2cms really making much of a difference...what do you guys think?

haha, I'm not trying to brag man. The 745i is gone now. I just came here to get some advice since my350z helped me with tires when I first bought my Z. I had some really good feedback so I thought i'd be able to get some more lol. Anyone have any opinions? Do you think its stupid to get a narrower tire? I personally love fat tires, but I'm getting a really good deal.

these definitely won't look wider, in fact smaller!

 

The 235mm front and 265mm rear are within specification of the 8.5” and 9.5” wheels on your car. So you’re good to go with these tires.

Handling and wear will be close to what you have with the stock widths. The main difference you might notice is lateral grip under higher-speed cornering. The wider stock tires will grip better than the tires you are asking about, but the difference may not even be perceptible with normal driving on the street.

They will not look that much different (just a little more “skinny”) since they are on the same wheels and stretched slightly.

OK… Now it sounds as though you are trying to talk yourself out of going with the 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 tires you are asking about and going with (preferring?) the stock 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 tires.

19x8.5F and 19x9.5R are NOT offsets. those are F/R diameter and width, respectively.

 

Thanks a lot for the in depth explanation. Im not trying to talk myself out of buying the 265s, I'm just trying to see if there's really a point in me buying off-spec tire sizes (recommended by Mercedes) just to save a couple hundred dollars. I plan on maintaining these tires for a while and don't want to be upset with my decision in the future. I use to have 275s on my Z with a 19x10.5 wheel and I loves how wide the tires looked. They looked really aggressive...and then when I would through on my stock wheels and tires, I would hate how skinny they looked. I would essentially be only saving like $100-$200 max. and it would save me an hour drive...I don't really know if its worth it. Well so far I've been getting the go ahead so I might just do it.

Ok… You are definitely trying to talk yourself out of the 235/265 combination. I share your preference for wider tires (especially on the rear).

The 235/265 combo cost$ less (initial purchase price and a continual savings on mileage) but, if every time you look at the car and wish you had the wider 255/285 setup… well, I’m thinking you should probably go with the wider setup.
