Polishing wheels yourself?
I have a set of 18" G35 wheels, which I happen to like. They have some minor scratches, and I was thinking of sending them out to be polished or chromed. So, I was wondering if it is possible to polish the wheel yourself? Or do you need heavy duty equipment? I am assuming of course that you do this as part of your car hobby, and have the time and patience to do so.
Anyone done it themselves? If so, suggestion on how to do it and what equipment you need?
Thanks!

Not worth the time, imho - serious arm labor and around 40 hours by hand (crazy friends have tried it). Doesn't look as good as a pro job either. A sandblast/polish should cost $50-$100 per wheel depending on if you want clearcoat or other options.
Same opinion here. I polished my intake on another car and it took a good 15 hours of pretty intense labor. THe G35 wheels would be easy though since they have a lot of flat surfaces, but you will never get them as good by yourself, unless you have a buffing/polishing machine. I would just send them out to be chromed. IMHO, chromed looks a lot better than polished, and if you don't get the polished clearcoated, there is a lot of upkeep that you need to do to keep them shiny. THe chromed will just stay shiny as long as you keep them clean.
