Default Advise on tire size up front

Trying to see if my new 18x10 +25 rims will fit a 275 up front, but after doing more searching, I am not sure it will, but I am probably going to get 265's and go from there. feel free to delete this thread

Personally, I would go with 255/40. 265/35 if you need the extra rubber.

Yes, that size does fit the front. But, see this thread for additional comments:

I did read that thread, and it really isn't a concern to me, I am used to expecting the roads in texas to try and steer the car for me. I plan on starting with a 265F and 275R tire combo. With potential to go to a 285 on the next round of rear tires. Rear tires only last me about 6 months, so if I don't like having a tire size so close to the front, I can go wider alittle later

Members have put a 10.0 inch wheel in front sure. But they will generally stretch a 255 mm tire not a fat 275 mm tire.

I would do the 265/35 285/35 combo or a 275/35 285/35 combo

Is this a track setup?

Nope, just a daily grind set up, my track set up is 255 all around, I have yet to actually use that set of rims yet tho

That is just silly. Your tire doesn't fit the wheel it's on.

Well then save your new 10" wheels for when you do so many track days that you do want more rubber. That front wheel/offset is good enough to run HUGE front rubber, like 275-305.

Why don't you go with 265/295? You're not runing a square setup are you?

I was hoping you might chime in, I don't know what you run for rims/tires, but you are active in the fat tires thread. I don't disagree that I can't run a 275, I just don't want to wait 4 days for the tires to arrive and find out I need to do stuff to make it fit on the spot. Really? a 305 up front? In the back I am going to need to roll the fender flat and I am sure 295 and maybe a 305 will be possible. Thank you for the info.

I will post pictures up when they are on, I am excited, I just hated seeing $818 leave my wallet to pay for the new tires, haha

My set-up seems to change on a season-to-season basis. I was just running 18x10 +23 and 18x10 +28 Enkei RPF1s (net offset with spacers) and 305 tires all around. I sold those so that I could try and go a little bigger.

Are your rear wheels the same size and offset? What kind of wheels are they? I also like the 265/295 suggestion. If you really want the 275 but are afraid it won't fit, grab a cheapo used one off of your local Craigslist and do a test-fit. Or hit up your local subforum and see if someone has one sitting in their garage that you could borrow. I know I do!

They are the same size rim front and rear, I wish they made a wider on in an 18... They are the flat black XXR 521's (I know not exactly a Volk...) I know a 285 sits pretty flat on a 10 inch rim, (I had a 285 on my G35's 20's) but from what I saw, the rim pokes out maybe 5mm from the outside of the fender, but that was with the suspension hanging. I already bought the tires and they will be here tuesday, but the tire choices after 285 is scarce. I think in the end I will stick with a 265 up front and probably move into a 285 after this set of tires, (New rims tires, coilovers, all the arms and so on is stacking up and I didn't have the funds for the 285's this time) At this point I am happy to know that the front tires will sit nice and later on (probably 15k-20k miles) I will be ready to replace them and run a wider tire up front if I feel I need too.

PS, how safe should I feel about tracking on XXR wheels, I don't have a doubt in my head about my MB battles, but XXR has a rota like track record in that way... People are already trying to buy my MB battles off me is why I ask

Tracking XXR wheels, they should handle it as well as any other cast wheel. I would do it, whats the worst to happen? You best a $100 wheel.

I hear you on wasting a $128 wheel, BUT, the potential to damage something that is worth some money AND having to wait 3-7 days for a new wheel would suck if I didn't have my spare set of rims with tires on them

I went off pretty hard last year and whacked a wheel. Nothing else broke, and I ended up turning a track RPF1 into a street RPF1. No harm, no foul. I wouldn't worry about tracking the wheels, as many track cast wheels with success, they're just a bit heavy. Why did you ditch the MBs?

What tires did you get? Make sure to test fit the 285 up front, which is especially easy since your wheels are all the same diameter and offset.

I will most likely not sell the MB's I ditched them because I think it made my car look not aggressive enough because the colors matched too well, and I wanted a wider wheel that fit better. I want to put on a more track worthy tire on the MB's and use them as track tires, BUT I have ZERO track experience, but alot of road experience in twisty, up and down hill conditions. (I have a VERY nice track behind where I live on Fort Hood that will test the suspension and brakes very well! BACK ON TRACK, I don't know what tire I would use on the track since I have been running Falken FK452's for the past few years and never ran a better tire. I also know that you get penalized for running more than a 255 on the NASA and autocross bumps you up a few classes for running bigger than a 255, so am I doomed to go with a 255, or should I just bump up and run a bigger tire?

Just a brief list of mods to give you an idea of where I am at for class stuff, I am not sure what is relevant or not
Engine
-Intake
-manifold spacer
-UR Pulleys
-Long Tube headers
-HKS knock off exhaust
-Tuned to 269RWHP/249TQ
-JWT clutch/flywheel
Brakes
-Wilwood 6 Piston 14' rotor Front
-Wilwood 4 piston 12.66 Rotor Rear
Susepension
-SPL solid diff bushings
-Stillen Sway bars
Will be installed soon as the coilovers show up...
-JasonZA toe arms
-Kintex rear camber arms
-Ichiba Front control arms
-Whiteline bushings for front lower control arms (they are all shot up front)
-Stance GR+ coilovers (it is my daily so I wanted something I could do both with
-Probably some endlinks in the nearish future

AND last but not least, a CD009 tranny waiting for the current tranny to give up (3rd gear has the grinds)
I am tempted to drop some cams in the car too but I don't know if it would push me out of a class to do that...
I am very interested in actually starting to track my car, but I have this itch telling me not to because it is my daily, haha

I'm running 275/35 18" +25 up front. Fits perfectly with lots of room.
