Default OK to use non-matching tire brands?

Not too long ago I bought 4 Continental DWS tires for my Z. I recently hit a nail with my right rear tire (3rd time, every time the right rear...argh) and it's not repairable.

I have an old Potenza lying around that has roughly the same amount of tread on it (maybe a bit less). Same size and everything. I'm assuming their wouldn't be any problem sticking the Potenza on the right rear even though the other 3 tires are Continental DWS tires, but wanted to make sure I wasn't assuming where I shouldn't be.

Are there any problems with that?

I always hear people saying it's a bad idea per axle. Different fronts from rears seems ok, but different tires on one axle seems odd. Can't really justify why, though.

On the same axle i could understand why some say it could be bad....

All tires really kind of vary in size from brand to brand (even if they are labeled the same), so if you have a larger circumfrence on one side then that could create extra wear on the diff...but i really doubt its anything to really WORRY about...But i think thats what people are getting at when they say its bad...

Front to rear is fine...i do it all the time haha

yeah i cant remember the last time i ahd matching tires all around.

In my case im trying to deal w a mis match pair of 325 25 20s, and huge HP... so traction is an issue and them some big rollers to have issues w lightly differeing rolling diameters keeping my LSD slipping slightly on one side all the time.. wear it out quicker id think.. dunno.

Not the best idea really. Same as walking around with a dress shoe on one foot and a work boot on the other. Can you walk? Yeah, but not very accurately. Biggest issue would be handling, especially in bad weather, from front to back. Gives the car a split personality.

Agreed, and especially an issue for the rear. Different manufacturers have different-sized "285s", so the overall width and diameter end up being different.
