Can tpms be added to a base model?

If so, what needs to be swapped to make it work?

 

Not OEM TPMS. There are aftermarket TPMS available that you could add on.

Adding TPMS to a base would be like trying to add cruise control. You don't have the fundamental electronics that support it, starting from the ECU on down.

my 05 base has tpms. did 03 and 04's not have them? yah i know i could have searched

I hate not knowing my tire pressures while I'm driving

 

In 2007, fed laws mandated TPMS for all cars, prior to that it was optional. 2005 was the first year that all Zs came with it.

 

I never installed my TPMS when i got my RPF1's i think its a useless tool lol...

It never told me exact pressure anyways just if one was lower than the stock "limit"...i dont see how thats usefull, i have a habit of checking my tires when i get in and out of my car anyways?

 

Me too. It was nice when I had it but I didn't install it with my GT-Cs so I just check it every now and then. And no it doesn't bother me.

 

Seriously? You walk around with a gauge and read the pressures, every time, some times, occasionally, rarely?

 

Lol. When i installed my new wheels i did not install the Tpms. Every 2 weeks i check my air pressure. Very simple.

 

I have had nails/pieces of metal in my tires and tpms told me it was low. Very helpful imho.

 

My tires always seem to be getting nails and crap....
Then when Im driving and if the road noise suddenly gets louder, it trips me out bc I start thinkin "****, is one of my tires runny low?"

Yes, I realize that most people without them check the pressure weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or some random schedule. I'm just amazed at Junkster's implication that he checks them EVERY TIME he gets IN and OUT of his Z. That's a lot of tire pressure obsession.
