Default best budget rims?

Is there such a thing? After a wallet-exhausting X-Mas, plus the death of my computer, I don't have a lot of $$ left for buying a costly set of wheels (costly to me means: $500+ per rim). I'm buying rims less for the fact of making myself stand out, but more because I bought blizzaks and mounted them on my badly-curbed rims (too long of a story to explain) and I figured it'd be smarter to get new rims and tires instead of switching between blizzaks and my old tires.

I live in NYC [pot-hole city] so I need something durable. Other than that, I have pretty low standards (although I want the rims to be at least 18"). Any suggestions? I did a few searches on budget rims and the like and not much popped up. Thanks guys (and gals)!

You can start by searching the wheels/tires section, or if you don't want to go through all the threads, then you can check out Discount Tires online, they have lots of selections on all kinds of budgets. I bought my Privat Fahren from Discount Tires and I couldn't be any happier! It's around $250 range....

There are tons of choices for rims with out dropping 3k on a set. I'm kinda in the same situation. Check out

tirerack

wheelmax

Another good source, the import magazines. Go to your local book store and look through a couple of them. They've got quite the selection and you can even find some good deals.

Good luck

you might want to grab a set of 17's. they are VERY cheap, 4-500$ for a set with tread. cant beat that with a stick.

18" gets a bit pricier at about 800; but still with tread thats way cheaper than youll find any other set of rims and tread.

your better to say how much you can spend. volk has a few sets of rims that run around 1200 a set; not quite 2-3000. but might still be higher than you were looking for.

ADR makes real nice wheels and you can get 18's for between 600-950 for the four of them depending on which ADR rim you go with.

The two I've seen on Z's are the ADR M-Sports and the ADR Sterlings. Both wheels look dynamite on the car.

Of course, I'm biased because I have ADR's but it's nice to know I got my rims for what some people spend on one wheel.

PM for pics.

if you want to mount snow tires, buy a set of used stock 18" wheels on these forums. it will cost you no more than 700-800 for the set w/o tires and u can swap your snow tires out with stocks whenever you want.

also, I think hopupracing is selling some 18" 5zigen wheels for around $1000.00, those are very light 5 spoke wheels, my buddy just got one for his G35c, and they look awasome!

I'm looking to spend about 1500 for new rims + tires. I know there are a lot of cheap rims out there. I'm just wondering what are the higher quality rims that don't carry the heavy price tag. Rims with good durability and make. (forged rims are supposedly to be the strongest right?)

NISMO are perfect at that price. You can find them for even less than $500 a pc. sometimes.

500 a peice yes; thats 2000 by themselves and another grand for tires.

as for your goal; I dont think that will be possible if I am understanding you right. 1500 for rims AND tires? or for rims; and then whatever for tires? sounded like the former; and with 18" tires running atleast 600$ for a set; and in many cases closer to 1000; that leaves very little for the rims.

forged rims will run you ATLEAST 400$ each in the 18" variety; they are the highest quality rims for the most part; and if they werent that much; Id reccomend not getting them. there are the "designer" makers like HRE which might charge a slight premium for the name. but there are not really any "bargain" brands that just put out a better all around rim for less then the competition; as with most things, you get what you pay for.

Would it be ok if I were to keep my stock tires and mount them on new rims? My stock tires are the G35 pilot sports 245/45/18, 225/45/18. I heard from some that putting it on new rims may stretch them too thin.

You can swap tires, I did it with my Potenzas. Be careful who does it, because the rims are easy to scratch.

depends what rim size you get; and how much distortion you find acceptable. 245 can fit all the way up to 9.5 or 10" rim; but its gonna look and ride wierd. whether its safe or not; I donno.

if you plan to get 8.5 or 9" rims tho; you would be ok IMO to use the 245. youll find most sets go 8.5 in front and 9.5 in rear; so youd if anything have a better shot at just using the rear tread on the new front rims; and buying a new set of 275(~500$) for the rear. you will be a bit large on the profile; but it will be ok if you go 45series on the rear too and switch to 40 series all around when you replace all 4 tires down the road.

now was that confusing?

Not a good idea to keep stock tires on the wider Nismo wheels. 225/45/18 recommended rim size is 7.5", recommended rime range is 7 to 8". Nismos are 8.5" front. 245/45/18 recommend rim width is 8", recommended rim range is 7.5 to 9", Nismos are 9.5" front. So, not recommended by tire manufacturers. But as you can see, some people have done it.

They might leak, or they might let go in a spirited turn. I put a set of Dunlop SP9000s on mine. Got them from a local discount tire store, mounted balanced with sales tax for $909.00.

The Copse sounds like a great fit for what I'm looking for. Going to start researching it right now. Thanks for all your suggestion guys! (and girls) If anyone has any ideas/comments on the Copse, feel free to share. Do you think my stock tires will fit on the Copse?
