Hi guys, I'm currently on 18's and am not satisfied with my wheel gap, I plan on getting coilovers soon, but then I found these 17 inch rims that are pretty cheap, and I want them. My question is will getting 17's make my car lower, reduce my wheel gap, or make my wheel gap bigger? Thanks!

 

Depends on the aspect ratio on whatever tires you choose to use.

 

On a side note, just because wheels are "pretty cheap" doesn't mean you should get them just for the sake of modding OP.

Forget about tire sizes and all that.
You really need to stay with 18's or better yet get 19's.

My personal recommendation of course would be to go with some 19s. I feel like they fit the size of the car.

Hmm, I assumed that 17 was okay since alot of Z's came stock with 17's for base model. I really dont like high profile tires. The wheels i found were 17 inch rota grids. i planned on getting the lowest profile tire available for 17 inch wheels, but if u guys say so, i guess ill keep looking for varrstoen 2.2.2 then.

 

Check the tire size for stock 17"!

So with this new piece of exciting information, we've now learned that in order to run 17". We have to run a higher side wall! Where will your journey take you now?

 

So if I get bigger rims, i'll balance it out using a lower sidewall?

 

Yes, that is correct. You want the overall diameter close to stock (generally within 3% of your OEM wheels and tires).

Hmm, thanks for the help guys, but I have one last question.

A Top 100 questions thread said that this is the most common upsized tire combination for 18 inch wheels.

245/40/18 25.7"
275/40/18 26.6" (0.9" stagger)

So if the wheels i buy come with

225/40/18 tires all around, does that mean my TCS is going to be going all crazy? :P
I don't think the thickness of tire would affect it in any way would it?

Oh, and one more thing! The offset on my stock wheels are +30 and +33, if the wheels i get are +38 all around, it would fit still right?

Don't get 17's.. 50 sidewall on a sportscar doesn't look too sleek.

 

aight guys its been a year now and I slammed my car but am still on oem 17s. There is a set of te37 legit for super cheap, but they are 17". Can't find a single picture of a Z with 17" te37 (i can imagine why). anyone know if it'll look good? LOL
