Default New wheels for my Z!

So, I decided to get new wheels. I really didnt want to upsize and i think 17's look awesome on the Z. Not to mention the roads where i live are simply horrible. I dont see how anyone with large rims and skinny sidewalls can not bend them! I just never wanted to worry about that, so ive always been conservative. Anyway...without further ado...

MB Weapons, 17x8 +28 in the front (with a 20mm spacer), 17x9 +17 in the rear. right now on stock tire sizes (225/50 front, 235/50 rear). I will move up to a 255/45 on the rear with the next set of tires (near same diameter as stock), maybe stay 225 in the front, i dont know yet. well see. so, what do you all think?

PS: seems links to Facebook dont show up. i clicked them and they work...i will post to photobucket to fix the problem though!

How BAD are the roads there?
Could it be you got the wheels cheap?
Actually,I like the color.However,when I bought my
Z,it had 17's.THey always looked kinda dorky-out of
proportion for the car. After much looking,I ended up
with 19's which in my opinion are the perfect balance
for a Z.For track use,18's are best.
I understand your point on possible damage due to bad roads.
THe 17's for that issue are best. They just look bad.

if youve ever been to Mississippi you would know how bad the roads are. yes, they are horrible. roads arent regularly fixed...they just throw gravel in a pothole, or throw some asphalt in it, and the next time it rains it needs to be redone. they also tend to repave roads that dont need it. as soon as you cross into Tennessee or Alabama you can tell even with your eyes closed, the roads are that much better.

yes the wheels were cheap...but thats besides the point. i dont care what a wheel costs, but im not spending 3k on a set of wheels unless its a show car. i like the way they look, and when i get new tires the rear will look better (dont like the stretch, even though its mild). plus, wheels are easily changed. if i get sick of it later ill change it. no big deal.

drop hasnt come yet, but it will soon. will be 100% better after that. after all, its my car and i enjoy it. some people like 18s or 19s, im happy with some meaty tires. its all personal preference

Good for you, Soc...I like 'em!
You will get all kind of arguments about size. I think less rotating mass=faster.
Enjoy.

Like you said its your car and as long as youre happy the world is good. For me though,Im not feelin' it. I think 17's are way to small for most cars, especially the Z.

I run 17” wheels in the winter because there’s a larger and better selection for studless snow tires. The smaller wheel is lighter and definitely provides better performance. I also have a noticeable improvement in ride comfort.

I agree with comments that 18” and 19” wheels look better on the Z, but there is a performance trade-off. But… It’s odd that we buy a performance car, and then we reduce its performance by adding weight, and we do it for appearances.

^^ I agree… For good reasons since soc_monki accomplishes the following with his 17” wheel/tire setup:

- The smaller wheels are less weight (which has many advantages, including handling and performance)
- The wheels cost less
- The tires cost less
- There is a larger tire selection
- Ride comfort is better

The downside is most consider 18” and 19” wheels as more attractive.

Beauty has its costs, and it’s expensive.

No offense but your Z looks like a 4x4 truck

Lower profile tires are needed ASAP

I am going with 17s also so it's great to see more people are doing this. However, your tires are narrower than factory. How can you stand the lack of grip?

Spike, 18" wheels definitely have a large tire selection for the Z.

I guess for a daily driver it's not that bad if you are happy. I do believe a properly fitter 18 would have also suited your needs, but to late now.

Aftermarket 17's can look good on a Z you just need to have the right kind of offset and wheel:

5Zigen FN01's

17x10 +12 (square)
255/40 front and 275/40 rear

On phone, will reply more later. Anyway, the tires are the stock width and diameter. Don't know why you think they're narrower?

And yes, I know it looks 4x4 now, but I haven't dropped it yet. Can also go with a different aspect ratio later, but I like the meaty tires. A drop is going to make it much better imo. So no worries. :-)

As for getting 06 wheels, yes I could have, but I liked these better.

18s may have done me well, and I may not have to worry about bending them, but oh well. I may upgrade later, but right now I'm digging the car as it is. :-)

Sorry for no multi quote, like I said I'm on my phone. So I tried to reply to most of you.
