Default Anyone have experience with Ambit?!

So, I'm in need of new rims (rocking OEM right now and have a pretty bad bend in one causing a lot of vibration)... I can't afford to go hella expensive so I've been looking at some of the racing series that Enkei carries... then I ran across Ambit.

I can't find any reviews, good or bad, about them but for sub $700 a set I can't expect a lot. I'm not likely to be racing the car, but I want to know that if I pitch the car sideways I can trust the rims.. they do look quite nice, but are they any good or are they an expensive paperweight?

They are probably a decent wheel. I have no experience with them but they do look good and I suspect you will be happy with them.

Look at the weight. If they're heavy, they're probably crap.

you can get a set of these for 450 to 500 for 18x10.5 square. that's dirt cheap. which would scare the **** out of me.

Exact reason for this post.
I simply can not find feedback on them anywhere. There are a few forum hits about people saying they are trash, but 0 proof. No pictures of a broken rim or anything.
Others say they have drifted/Autocross with them and they hold up fine.

Without proof either way I don't want to spend the money on them....

There is no proof. People have many different experiences with wheels and a lot of that depends on how you drive the car. If you hit a curb chances are you will bend or break any wheel.

Those aren't nearly the same wheels in both pics, although they may be the same brand - don't know. But the question is, why buy something that you've never heard of, when there are so many other alternatives. OK, maybe you don't want to seond a few $K on wheels, but there are many brand names at ~$1K, and the Enkei, for example, are a proven quality product. What if the paint falls off and you have a warranty claim, or you curb one and need a replacement, etc.? I wouldn't buy a set of Rota's or XXR's, but at least you know they're very likely going to be around in a few years.

I run the RE02 as my street set up with no issues. 18x10.5 with a 285

And don't buy them for 700. I can ship you a set to your door (through my job which is a wheel and tire place) for 600

IMO, look for a wheel that is not a flyby night no name brand, if you smak one down the read, replacements will be needed.

If you need to have really inexpensive wheels, at least look at a set of MB Battles. About the same price as the Ambits, but a known brand, and there are some guys here who have used them on their Z's before.

i had battles on my z 18x9.5 +15 rear and +23 front. for the money they are decent. i have a buddy that drifts on battle, never had an issue, even hydroplaned smacked and jumped a curb, all it did was scratch it up some.. no bend or break. i saw a z32 that had xxr's, hit a curb it broke causing him to flip.

**found the pic of the xxr

Konigs and enkeis are cheap decent wheels.

Gram light and ssr are a bit more but theyre also a bit better, depending on the model.

Myself, personally having 3 set of rays, i have to say that i rather shell out 3k for a forged set than having a 700 set break causing 2-3x in damage the cost of a set of quality wheels.

You'd be better off finding a quality used set over a new set of that brand

Sorry, no experience on these but something else you should do is to look WHO sells these wheels. A quick Goog search and I saw NO reputable (known) sellers other than Enjuku (no experience with them but at least I've heard about them from this site).

I would vote with the majority here and get some Enkeis. No sense trusting your link to the road to cheap wheels or tires. You know, "Pay now or pay later either way yer gonna pay."

And don't take this the wrong way (because I have a set of known Rays up for sale currently) but there's a lot of good used wheels for sale here and around the 'net.

Mic

The fact that they are less than $600 for a set of 4 is enough proof that they're garbage. It's a simple matter of production cost. A quality wheel would not be profitable at that price point.

They weight almost 26lbs each in 18x10.5. I thought about buying a set for daily to keep my high priced wheels clean. Found a cheap and lighter alternative instead. A few Evo X owners have Ambits and no issues reported, yet.
