Does anyone have any experience with the Firehawk Indy 500?

I was looking at getting them for my new wheels. I found them for about $580. The reviews I have read on them seem pretty good. My car will not see any track time. I'm just looking for something with good all around summer performance that is not too loud.

The other tires I was comparing them to were Continental ExtremeContact Sport($860) and Michelin Pilot Super Sport($960). Is it worth it to spend the extra money on these other tires given my application?

I had Michelin Pilot Sports - A/S plus

They were good, but.... dry cracks all over the sidewalls and tread worn down in 30,000 miles. Not worth the extra money in my view.

Replaced the Michelins earlier this year with Cooper Zeon R3A for a tad under $600, so far after 4,000 miles, these tires perform far beyond my expectations.

I had Firestone Firehawks on a car in 1990, was on a Highway curve, sidewall separated from tread, spun me, luckily no hit to wall or others, but that experience alone has deterred me from another Firestone purchase.

I've actually considered getting the new Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires for my own set to try out since they are apparently made after the Bridgestone RE-11 but of all the ones I've sold to customers, I haven't heard many reviews back so either they are happy with them or there hasn't been any issues.

Pretty cool tire for the budget regardless. As for the other two, they're great an go to options for many of our customers when they're not just looking to keep their budget under $1k for the tires.

 

If you're looking for another option, check out Sumitomo HTR ZIII's. They are priced right and a good summer tire. I'm pretty sure others here have run them besides me.

I vote Michelin Pilot Super Sports

I went from pretty sticky tires (BFG G-Force KDW2) and the Michelins are just on another planet. The grip in both dry and wet is ridiculous, not to mention excellent tread-wear and they are super quiet.

I have ran Bridgestone, Pirelli, Toyo, Dunlop, BF Goodrich, and Michelin, and the Pilot Super Sports gets my vote any day.

 

FWIW, I just did a slightly more thorough "testing" of another tire that I think is worth consideration - Kumho Ecsta PS91 - at the "lower price range Max Performance" level (like the Sumitomo HTR-ZIII).

I'll also let you know about the Conti Extreme DW in a few hours.... heading to tire shop right now to have them put on my non-Z. (Which, incidentally, are prematurely replacing a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S due to not only sidewall cracking - not a safety issue - but also the start of a tread separation issue, definitely a safety issue.)

 

I'll chime in with my $.02. I ran the Extreme Contacts on my stock 17s and I currently have the Indy 500s on my 19" LMGT4s. I got a good deal on them so I figured WTH. Might as well try them out. I think they're a good bang for the buck if you can snag a set for a good price. No complaints yet. I've put about 2,500 miles on them so far.

Of course, I can't really compare apples to apples since they're on different wheels than the Extreme Contacts and I've done a few suspension mods since I had the stockers on there, but good traction and decent hydroplaning resistance.

 

Decent rubber..."always worth it and never worth it"...load up the SS's and be done with it.

 

I have extremecontact sports on my 370Z in square 285's.

These are a brand new tire, it's not the DW. Coming from stock Yokohama Advan sports, these have nearly the same initial turn in, ride better, quieter, last longer, off the line traction is better, wet traction is better, and they corner a lot harder. My cousin owns an E92 M3 with the electronic dampers; he says between the suspension and tires, it handles better than his car. He runs PSS's btw, stock sizes on 18's.

I have the Conti Extreme DWs on my non-Z and finally got a chance to drive 'em up in the hills (no pushing, just a trip to the winery) and they're awesome. Much more controlled than the Michelin Pilot A/S that I tossed due to their starting to tread sep.

Smooth, quiet ride, good turn-in and response. All factors better than the junk I took off.

Will let ya know about the Michelin PSS after I get a chance with second-go-round on them shortly.

Had a set of ExtremeContact Sports, and I have nothing negative to say.

 

got the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 summer tires last year. They grip well on dry and wet roads. So far, no complaints.
