Default 19" wheels shredding front fender liner

Not 100% if this is the right sub ( if not let me know if exterior/interior mods is better)

...But my tires on 19" wheels are shredding my front fender liners on bumps (the front half that connects to the bumper) causing them to hang loose and slowly get destroyed. Is there any way to remove these and use any other material to protect the side of the engine bay from water and debris, and also the headlights? What do you guys do?

Thank you

thanks for replying.
yeah its stock ride height as far as I know. Haven't touched anything. And I dont think the previous owner lowered it any as it was 100% stock minus a clear bra.

yes I did go from the stock 18 to 19. but the oem setup is a 26" diameter tire, and mine is 26.6", so only .3" in radius. So not much larger, and yes a 275 tire in the front. I'll update with a pic of the fender liner rub. (and I'm not saying I shouldn't rub it with this setup, although many said I wouldn't. But I'm just trying to get rid of the fender liner in the safest way possible)

i would double check that spring.. seems low to be oem. you need the fender liner to protect the headlights....

So you installed a taller then stock front tire on a sports car with minimal clearances and you are now rubbing. I think I may have figured out the issue

That's what I thought as well. I'll have the wheels off in a couple weeks to change the ball joins and I'll check the springs then. also here are the pics of the rub. I know i need it for sure, thats how my previous headlight went out (when the fender liner got ripped off from road debris) but I was wondering if anyone knew of any alternative fender liner.

I have seen plenty of z's with 19's up front and they have more clearance than me. I know "why" I'm rubbing. I'm trying to see if theres an alternative fender liner as an option. I dont need a rude *** comment that adds nothing to the conversation.

short answer is no, there is nothing else available. Non oem liners off ebay are even worse as they are much thinner plastic.

Sorry terramask for hastily replying without thought. Shouldn't have replied that way.

But I just thought about this, the mounts on the buttom of my bumper are messed up where they bolt up to the splash guard and fender liners (from road debris) would replacing my front bumper, and cutting the fender liners where they rub possibly be a good solution?

thanks

you can step down to a smaller aspect ratio tire and keep the width.
those look fairly meaty, nothing wrong w that, but its the best bet for keeping the liner in place and not running the headlight.

thanks ^ I think that's what Ill go for. I like having some meat, but 30's should still look good. I need new front tires anyways so i'll probably go for some 275/30's or 265/30's

Before you pull the trigger, consider the math...

225 45% 18 25.97 Stock Reference Size F
245 45% 18 26.68 Stock Reference Size R

Alternate Fronts

Sizes - O.D. - Delta

245 35% 19 25.75 -0.22
255 35% 19 26.03 +0.06
265 35% 19 26.30 +0.33
265 30% 19 25.26 -0.71
275 35% 19 26.58 +0.61
275 30% 19 25.50 -0.47

The 245/35 and 265/35 also work OK but the 255 is spot on. Have many sets of 245 and 255 with nary a problem.

lol thanks! appreciate the helpful chart. I'd like to be able to run 265's but atleast I know 255's will be perfect if that doesn't work out! I'll update you after I change the ball joints and check those front springs.

Lol.
Len is often a dick, and so am I lol... but were tired, old, have been here too long.. but the world honestly needs more people like that/him/us.

If your fender liner isn't solidly bolted up as it was intended, it will flex back during driving on the freeway etc, and hit the tire due to the air pressure coming in from the front bumper etc. Aftermarket bumpers w big holes cause that a lot, but if yours is missing a part of yours, might be your issue.

35 series on a 19 might be asking for trouble unless it was a fairly normal/narrow tire, which yours is not .

yes. One ball joint has torn rubber, and the other is greasy, so I know they both need to go.

haha its okay. Yeah basically there was a semi tire in the middle of the highway a year ago and it ripped the undertray off the bumper cracking the bottom, and ripped the left fender liner in half and most of the bolts holes on the bottom of the bumper were just shredded. (still oem bumper) but its hard to get the fender liner to bolt up properly, so I'm sure replacing the bumper and undertray might fix this issue preventing the fender liners from being pushed into the tires.

I'll start with the bumper, and if I still have issues, move to a lower profile/skinnier tire.

Thanks for the help.

There is very little clearance in that area of rubbing to begin with. Dropping to a 275/30-19 in the front will help a lot
