What's up guys first time posting from UK, I've got 10x18 and 11x18 wheels and was originally thinking of getting 255/40/18 and 275/40/18 on the car, but I prefer more square-ish fitment without upsetting the VDC and TC if possible, can someone tell me if 265/35 and 275/40 will be within the 3%? I'm crap at maths 🤣

Hmmm, I miss something? Why? VDC tolerance is about diameter delta (actually it's about wheel speed which is a function of rolling diameters/circumfrence but for discussion, diameter), not offset.... all of which I know you already knew.

To answer OP's q.... that combination is outside of 3% tolerance range by +2.1% so yes, you *MAY* experience some VDC error.

Closest absolute square (if you don't want or can't run 275s square) is 265/40-18 being closest to OE sizes (avg'd between the stagger). And yes, there's a good selection of tires in that size from All seasons to Extremes.

275/35-18 would also make a great front tire. Then a 18x11 rear, I 295/35-18 would be more ideal

 

So 265/40/18 and 275/40/18 is good to go? Just for interest what's the variance of percentage for this? Sorry to be a pain once again

Thanks for the reply but I don't want to over tyre the 350z, it's almost stock power, 275 at the rear is the absolute max I want to go, don't want too much grip taking all the fun out of it.

And no, a square 265/40 set up shouldn't give you any VDC error. The ECM parameter is set to monitor wheel speeds where one or the other end spins faster/more revs than the 3% delta. With 265/40 F&R, there's relative parity with both end spinning at the same rate with minor variances for cornering.

 

Wow didn't know that, good to know I can go 265/40 square without problem, but I may still get 275/40 rear on the 11 as not to over stretch the tyres

 

Within fitment range. While every Mfgr and tire type has its own nuances you should expect some stretch with a 275/40 on an 11" wheel (I'm running 275/40's on 10.5 out back on a stock Z, slight stretch is evident, performance is solid). If I were setting up on 11"'s I'd run nothing under a 285 personally.

 

Think I'll go with 265/40/18 square, found a very good deal for Yokohama AD08 for £130 per corner, awesome price! Being an R tyre its wider then normal road tyres and should have a little bit of stretch without being over the top.

 

Dang, that's pretty good price for road glue like AD08s. But they are closing them out so inventory is getting scarce. Wondering what's replacing them?

 

They are discontinued and the price is that low because there's only one left in stock lol, think I'll get the new version AD08r

 

New version? Hmmmm, maybe where you are in the UK, the situation is different; but here in US, many of the versions being clearanced out are AD08Rs - which have been around here for several years.

I had AD08s on a set of replica DR type wheels that I did some "testing" (not really testing, just trying to see if I could break the wheels in day-to-day+ driving..... couldn't.) And if the sticky AD08s couldn't impart enough drama on the wheel, probably not gonna break 'em.

 

Stickier tyres will break driveshafts before wheels I'd imagine lol, AD08r is definitely the new version of the AD08, even the official website said so, weird if it's the other way round for US.....

 

New dilemma, 265/35/18 square? What's the variance on them? Seen some very good reports from people running Nangkang NS2R👀

 

The important part is front to rear, rear should be taller. With a square setup, tires are equal height. Most cars your dan daily drive without issue, but if you play, you will need VDC/TCS turned off

 

Ok so what square set up or even staggered setup options have I got out of that list will gives me the lowest variance for the VDC/TC?

265/35/18 front 265/40/18 rear

 

Bit of an update, ended up going with Nankang NS2R tyres, 255/35/18 on 10x18 et7 and 265/35/18 on 11x18 et 12 at the back, felt that would be the closest I can get to a square setup, and being an r tyre the fitment is perfect, just the slightest stretch, no issues with vdc at the moment, on standard suspension and there's no rubbing, booking my car in soon to install coilovers camber arms and toe bolts. Hopefully that will dial back some feels back as the wider front dulled the steering a little bit.
