Default Recomend Tires for 500+Whp

What tires do you guys recommend for 500Whp. I'm running stock 8" G35 wheels. Wanting to stay as close as possible to 26" tall tires so my Speedo and stuff isn't super off.

I'm thinking 255/40-18

Some of the tires i was thinking.

Is this for a street car, or for track use?

Why not go for a wider wheel? I'll be rocking 305 PS4S and that is power I'll be chasing for.

I know its not a good anwser but i'm poor, and not looking for crazy set ups.

A 305 is what 300-400 a tire for a good tire compound?

In all honest i should get rid of the brembo's and get some 15's

If you’re poor as you say, there is no sense in going with a set of A052 or RE71R. Waste of money at purchase (expensive) and wear on such soft compound tires that will be done before 10k on the street.

My other car (non-Z) puts down 435 wheel and have never had tire issues on Michelin PS and now on Conti Extreme. Grip, turn in and power holding more than adequate.

That is a totally viable answer lol, I get it, I've been on 18x8s for about 8 years so I decided it was time to get something better looking. Like Mic said the Michelin PS are great but they are expensive, i think an argument could be made about width vs cost of a better compound. EG: a cheap 275 rear "should" have more grip than a sticky 245 on the street. Do you drive in different weathers or only need summer tires? I'm looking to get the Continental DWS for my DD soon since I hear good things, and yes my set of PS4S were about $1500. Benefit is I don't drive my car that often due to weather, my PSS I have now ar 5 years old and look brand new lol

I'm also on MPSSs at 415. I think almost as important as tire choice is monitoring your psi for proper contact and of course paying very close attention to the tires limits. My advice- select your budget and look at reviews on Tirerack.com for your price range. Posters list their vehicle, driving style and thoughts.

It's not that I'm poor even though I am, but if I were to do rims, I'd have to do rims all the way around the car and then buy tires on top of that.
I'm stuck between Extreme Contact Sport ($200) and Pilot Sport 4S ($225) 255/45-18. Number 3 and number 1 in the max performance summer tires.
They are a slightly taller than stock tires. So, that is a plus.

255 on an 8" wheel.... can be done but kinda bloated for that narrow of a wheel. Goes against the objective of holding 500Whp in check. 245 is a better fit on an 8" wheel. Right at the practical limit of 120% tire-to-wheel size. But as stated, "can be done". Also, 255/45 is a whole inch taller than stock front tire... 25.97 stock front versus 27.04" 255/45. Definite no-no if you have VDC. If not, still a little squirmy, handling wise.

I ran 225/40/17 and 245/40/17 Bridgestone 970's when I first bought the Z, stock motor, no VDC problems.

I just noticed they had 245/45-18 option. I'm going with the OEM size eventually when I upgrade rims I'll get a wider tire.

Did you buy tires yet? I'm in the same boat... I don't know exactly how much power I make yet, but my car spins the 295 Continental DWS's in 3rd gear. They are worn and I knew they wouldn't be great once I got the car running with the Vortech etc. I had the Continental sports before and they definitely gripped better, but the car wasn't boosted on that set. My car is 99% street and lots of canyons. I do want to take it to he drag strip... but that's only gonna be once or twice for grins and giggles.

I did buy them but haven't been out on the streets yet. I'm working on getting my water meth kit all squared away. Hopefully next week I'll be out and about to I'll be able to give a better answer.

I guess I'm missing it... but I didn't see where you said which tire you decided on? I've had Conti sports before and they were great with my n/a car. They're a 340tw... seems like a lot of boosted cars are dropping to 100/200tw tires in the rear? Unfortunately I put the damn A/S Conti's on my car last time I bought tires because it was rain season and that's what they had in stock. They're basically useless right now lol
