Default TCS and 19 inch wheels

Hey,

I was hoping someone could give me some insight. Last weekend, I put on 19inch Axix Hiros on my '04 Z Roadster. When I had them put on, I had to remove that 6th screw off the 2 fronts (anyone know what those are for?). I drove the car all weekend and noticed that the TCS light (SLP) went on frequently even while I was driving on a dry smooth highway going no more than 70 mph. Does anyone else with after market wheels have this problem? Anyone know what could be causing it? Could that 6th screw that I took off have something to do with it? I put 19 inch, 275x30 (9.5) in rear and 245x35 (8.5) in front with 20mm offsets all around. Tires are Hankook Ventus.

Also, can anyone from the NYC/ Long Island area recommend a good Nissan dealer to bring the car to for regular maintenance? I bought the car far in Jersey and really don't want to go back there.

Thanks to anyone who can help and I am glad to join this forum. I love the car so far and will take some pics soon.

James

Your tire stagger in incorrect, your front tires are slightly larger in diameter than your rears. The rears must be between .25"-.8" taller than the front or the TCS system will think your rear tires are slipping because they are spinning fast than the front. Take it back to the tire shop and have them change tire sizes. I can look up the info if need be, but check around here in the Modification section under wheels/tires/brakes/suspension.

Switch from your 275/30 in the rear to 275/35 and all will be ok.

I was hoping that was not the option because I ordered these from California (Wheelstudio.com). They assured me that these were the right sizes. What if I just turn the TCS off?

BTW, the bolt you had to remove was to prevent people from putting the stock rear wheels on the front.

Moving to Wheels/Tires section.

Just found out that Hankook doesnt make a 275x35 and the guy at Wheelstudio said that 245x35 front and 275x30 in back is within 3% of the range. He also said to reset the computer (by taking off negative terminal for 5 seconds). I would have to buy 4 new tires to get the x35 all the way around. Does anyone else haev the setup I have without problems?

Resetting the computer will NOT fix this. You can just turn off the TCS, but It serves a purpose for about 90% of the driving and drivers out on the road. Wheelstudio just wants to sell product and isn't knowledgeable about the 350Z. If they do know then they are just bad people.

I think they messed up and are trying to fix the problem by getting you to buy more tires. Get them to swap out the tires, or maybe you can do a charge back on your credit card and get your money back. It's a long shot, but it might work. If you used Amex, no problem.

The guys over there actually do not sound like scumbags and I'm positive that they aren't just trying to sell me more tires. The manager over there (Gabriel) insists that he has sold a lot of wheels with the setup that I have to Z and G35 owners. I am going to bring it to the local Nissan dealer and let them tell me that he sold me the wrong size. Then he really has no choice but to reimburse me or exchange.

You should have stayed away from HANKOOK tires to begin with.

I'm running 245/35/19 and 285/30/19.

Front and back almost the same diameter (no stagger). Haven't had a single problem with TCS/VDC and i've taken them to and beyond the limit. The gold Top Secret Z runs the same 245/35 285/30 setup on 20's.

Oh boy....Ive been over this again and again. Seems as if these shops that 'know everything' really dont know much at all.

1st issue:
Nissan wants between .5 to .75" stagger front to rear, rear being taller of course.

2nd issue:
you WILL anger vdc, trac, abs

3rd issue:
The dealer doesnt need much reason to try and void your warranty. Ignoring their stagger rule is one thing, doing a rear tire thats shorter is even worse.

4th issue:
It looks wrong. a 275-30-19 rear is 1.2" shorter in overall diameter than your stock rear tire. Why would you do this?

For most 19" 350 applications you should have a 245-35-19 & 275-35-19 or 285-35-19 rear tire. Anyone who tells you otherwise is mistaken. the 35 series rear may be a bit harder for them to find, or maybe they were told the wrong information. Either way, it is the incorrect setup...and a lot of you on the board have had this mistake happen to you.

Maybe it will cause and issue. Maybe it wont. I sure wouldnt want to find out while going 60 on the highway in the rain in CA when a wrec happens around you and your abs decides to freak out. Just my .02.

Take a look at the calculations below.

this one is stock size rear vs a 275-30-19 rear

this is the 245-35 & 275-30-19 incorrect combo

and here is the correct 245-35 & 275-35 combo

I have 245/35/19 on the front and 255/35/19 on the back. The front rims are 8.0" and the rears are 8.5". I was going to put the 275/35/19 on the rear however i was assured by multiple people that the 255 on the rear and 245 on the front was the closest possible specs to the original. However, i am still having terrible "SLIP" problems.
can anyone help?

Its unfortunate because you are kind of max'd out on the rear. 275 is a bit big for a 8.5, and the 255 doesnt allow for enough stagger. See guys, some people "do" have stagger related issues.
