Default Nismo power steering cooler install?

Has anyone installed the Nismo power steering cooler? After overheating my power steering fluid at a SCCA track event last weekend, I'm considering installing the Nismo PS cooler.

Is this a DIY-possible mod, or is it best left to the pros? My nearest mod-friendly dealer is quoting this as a 3 hour install. This seems like longer than it should take, but all of their other estimates have been reasonably accurate. Is this a reasonable time frame for a professional install of this mod? Thanks!

No way should it take 3 hrs. I am no master mechanic and I did it in 1 hour. The hardest thing is to taking the front bumper cover off. The worst part about that is pulling the clips out. Once the bumper was out I took the bracket off the old PS cooler and mounted it on the new one. I then pulled the hoses off the old one as quickly as I could put them on the new one. I used a bolt to plug the hoses while I removed them from the old cooler to keep all the fluid from coming out. I got very little air in the system and it bled out when I turned the steering wheel with the car off.

I agree with stx. The harderst thing is removing the bumper. This is a DIY project. There have been a few cases of people burning up their power steering oil on the track. So I recomend this as well as the Nismo Thermostat.

Do it your self. nothing hard about it at all. just be carefull when you drill the new hole, don't drill through the radiator. get a bottle of Nissan power steeering fluid. a little trick I used to help get the air out of the system B4 you reconnect every thing is to connect the TOP line to the new cooler and let the fluid circulate until it flows out the return end, them push on the hose.

Nice tips guys, thanks. I'm just curious why you need to remove the bumper. Seems like you can just get to it easily from underneath. Time to go buy.

The front bumper is so easy to remove & replace it shouldn't be an issue. You probably could install it without removal except for drilling the new mounting hole in the face of the radiator support.

So the Z has a power steering cooler already??? I didn't know that? Does the G have one as well??

Can't we just use a larger universal cooler from summit or something like that? It isn't like the piece is special made from the way it looks, just bigger.

Would just have to match the connector or get convertors.
Not too expensive though.

Thanks for the help, everyone. This sounds like an easily DIY-possible mod if I can't find a shop that can install this for a price I'm willing to pay.
