Question need some help on rims and tires quest...

well it seems that i just can't wait any longer to get my rims and tires since i dropped down on my hks ls+ coilovers....

in doing some checking around this is what i came up with and needed to know what your opinions are regarding my decision at this point....

rims will be volk sf winning 18" 9.0 f +23 offset and 18" 10.0 r +20 offset

tire sizes will be 245/40/18 and 275/35/18

i really am not 100 percent set on the tires but i was going to go with sumitomo htrz2...i wanted something inexpensive, performance, wet/dry tire and something that won't wear out fast

i don't want to go 19's....and i really like the volk sf winning but the only size they have are 9/10 for f/r....don't know how they would look since everyone with these rims have gone 19's

price is 3100 shipped to my door including everything, lugs, balancing, center caps, etc...ready to install

any suggestions or comments would be appreciated...thanks all

nice choice! but your rear tire is too small... 275/40/18 is much closer to stock

yep, 275/40/18 is the correct rear tire size. also the 18" mesh wheel is going to look tiny. i would definitely consider 19s if it's in your budget.

you could also go 18s in the front and 19s in the back... i think it will look great... the 19 in the back is what everyone looks at anyway, and with a fat lip, it'll appear similar in size to the front 18 (my 19s in the back look smaller than my fronts because of the lip)...

that way you save money on your fronts, and you can run a fatter tire too (245/40/18)

honestly, i'm running 19s in the fronts and the 245/35/19 is just too little sidewall IMO

well this is the look i am after...just not sure what sizes to go with.....i am sure these are 19's. i wanted to go with 18's just to keep the weight down a little more but i have not seen any pics of the sf winnings in 18's on a z yet.

thanks for that info on the rear tire size...that will help out....i am just kinda going by the info the shop guys are feeding me....

yep, those are 19's.

honestly, why worry about the weight. i never understood why people, who will never take thier car to the race track, care so much about weight savings for driving around on the street.

so how much of a difference in performance is there between the 18's and 19's....i really don't know....thats why i am gathering info...i need to also see what the price difference is too....and i will occasionally take it to the track but really, i agree, rims are more for looks....here i am talking myself into those 19's already...damn...what to do!

sport compact car did a test a few years back... i have the issue on the shelf somewhere... i can find out... they ran tests on a track while changing the rim/tire diameter from 16 to 17 to 18 and also comparing that to adding sand bags to the trunk.. the rim and tire brands stayed the same across the runs for consistancy and they also averaged several runs for accuracy

what they found was that adding an inch in rim size affects acceleration and track times equal to that of adding 100 lbs of dead weight (this is a very rough estimate in our case because we're moving from 18 to 19, but it gives you a ballpark figure to think about)

IMO, not that bad at all considering the difference in weight between two drivers could be that much... so again, running 18s compared to 19s for the same rim isn't going to save you a whole lot, but it does take a lot away in the looks department

my vote is still to go with 18s front and 19s rears to get the best of both worlds

somebody else has suggested running an 18 front and 19 rear and i am considering it....they recommended a 245/40/r18 and 275/35/r19 tire size...can someone photochop or something...i hate to be the ginnea pig and have it not look good for that much bank in rims and tires

the point that i'm trying to make is that you will never miss that "extra performance" on the STREET.

i only know one person on the net who is running a 18/19 setup... lentronic

you can see pics of his ride on 350zmotoring.com

but his setup will be different because his rims do not have lip... with the rims you're looking at, you're going to a get a fat lip in the back, which will make your 18s look smaller then they are... by running 18s in the front and 19s in the back, you're negating this optical illusion

like i said in another thread, if i were to do it all over again, i would definitely run 18s in the front and 19s in the back for street use

May I suggest ContiSportContacts or BF Goodrich g-Forces for your new tires? More grip at the expense of some treadlife. If anything, use Sumitomos as winter tires.

i am either going 18's all around or possibly 18f-19r....i am still getting pricing from different distributors too so any suggestions on who has the best prices would be cool....i appreciate everyone's help so far....but i am definately set on the sf winnings for sure.

i hope they will look alright in 18's...i want a softer ride with less weight...i know its not much of a difference but i really like how my 17's ride so i want something similar....

i am still open for comments and suggestions as i am not one hundred percent sure just yet....peace out
