Default cast vs forged wheels???wat's better??

wat are your opinions?

i'm dying to get a set of rims...and actually torn whether or not i should save up for a forged set like volks/gram lights/

or save some money and go with a cast set from HP racing.

both would be in 19" by 8or 8.5 fronts and 9 or 9.5 in rears with a nice lip.

is there really much of a difference in strength??

i'm in the nyc area..and we have lots of potholes!!!!!!!!!!
would hate bending expensive rims...for that matter...any rims.

will forged handle and last longer...esp for the price...
or save money on cast...and hell...if i have to i can get another wheel....since i didn't spend an arm and a leg.????

thanks for your opinions.

Forged rims are stronger. Yes there is a difference. I've been very impressed w/both my Volk & SSR's ..

This is basically a no brainer. Forged rims resell better and are lighter & stronger .. you buy generic, when you want to upgrade later, you will take a big hit ..

Why do they have to be so big (diameter wise)? 19" is kind of ridiculous. 19" forged wheels would be rediculously expensive while pretty much throwing out the whole point of being forged (lightweight, high strength, PERFORMANCE ORIENTED DESIGN).

Huge difference. But the main allure of a forged wheel is the weight, or lack of it.

My overall suggestion to you is go with an 18" setup, but seeing as how you dont seem too concerned with a lightweight performance wheel... Research a strong cast wheel. I just cant recommend a forged wheel unless you were looking at track duty.

forged. lighter weight for a stronger rim. yes they are more expensive. but for resale, they hold their value VERY well so long as you dont curb anything.

Ridiculous? Hmmmmmmm...I guess the engineeers from Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, Audi, BMW, etc. should have consulted with you before putting those ridiculous wheels on their cars.

Compare one forged wheel with a cast one and chances are the forged will not be stronger than the cast wheel (though it all depends on the quality of the cast wheel and you do get what you pay for). Forging allows lighter weight for similar durability. If you took a forged wheel that weighed the same as a cast wheel of similar design then I would say it was stronger. I've bent Volk wheels and cracked cast wheels...either way the cost would've been the same to either repair the forged wheel or replace the cast wheel.

It's not a matter of opinion. Forged is better. Putting a heavy set of cast wheels on a sports car like this is counter-productive. That being said, chances of bending any aftermarket wheel, where we live is great. Price you pay to play!

NYC's potholes are lethal! Whether you choose forged or cast, rims will bent if you are not careful in NY. With all the construction going on in the city as well as highways, I would go forged.

Forged . This is the first set of forged rims I've owned and I have not destroyed them yet. I've hit just about everything with these that other rims that was cast would not hold up to.

I went from 19x8 Axis Se7en Mod to 19x8.5 SSR GT3. From 1pc cast to 3pc forged. With tires, they weighed about the same. Hopefully they're somewhat stronger, since they cost 2x as much! As far as bending a rim, you can fix cast wheels as well...

Definitely go with forged. I just picked up a nice set of J5 19" forged rims, and I am very happy with them so far. Plus they look hella clean.
